What do I need to make sure, before, during and after getting castrated?

Post by Zac (imported) »

Guys, many of you know that I've been having pain in my testicles / groin for some time. The doctor has run all the test know to man or so it would seem and everything appears to be is clear. I told myself that if everything was clear and if she wouldn't do a bi lateral, I would find someone experienced to do it for me. Well after many months of trying and communicating with this person, (actually I've know him on and off for ages and his reputation and experience are beyond repute) it looks like I will be meeting up with him soon to discuss the producedure. Thing is I need adivce; Proper advise. Like what I need to do to prepare for the procedure. What do I need to make sure he does and does not. What do I need to do after the procedure etc.

If things do not go right like it can happen so often. Have your insurance paid up. Have maybe $50,000 in the bank in case the insurance does not pay. Someone you can trust to drive you to the hospital. Be ready to spend time in a mental ward for evaluation.

If you do make it through all of the first day then infection would be a major worry. Some of the stitches could open up on the cords and start to bleed. The sack stitches open up. Sack swell to the size of a grapefruit. Fever and sweats.

You could be lucky and every thing goes well.

If hormones are going to be replaced make sure you get pre-surgery hormone levels (maybe lots of them at different times) checked so you can match it after the surgery. Even it you just have one removed I would make sure you know what your levels were before surgery and watch them levels thorughout the years.

Now if hormones are not an issue. Don't do the above.

During the surgery I would enjoy the drugs. There is not much else you can do.

After the surgery one thing that does really help. Wear a jockstrap to hold down the swelling. It was a pain to wear all the time but it did help.

They can still bleed. Even if a doctor does a castration there can be problems. We have an active thread running now where the doctors castration did not turn out good and a lot of problems have followed. The person had to go to his urologist.

I don't understand. Your female doctor IS going to do this correct? If your talking about having some "buddy" do this? Get a will drawn up.

If you have Orchialgia (Chronic Pain of the testes) and a doctor who doesn't do Orchiectomy for anything BUT cancer you have bumped into a common enough problem. Instead of doing something really really dumb and getting yourself into the grave (or the ER followed by the insane ward) try this.

Contact a pain doctor. They don't do more mountains of tests but they do offer mountains of ways to do pain relief. If (IF) they can't solve it they are the ones who will numb up your testicles and cords to see if thats where the pain is really from. It might NOT be. Then they can give a surgeon who DOES treat Orchiagia with surgery (Like an Orchiectomy) the go. You might be asked to do a mental health screening. This eliminates the UFO wack job people. Go for it. If nothing else you can go over everything and have a resource if you have second thoughts after the surgery.

When your looking for a surgeon you need to find an expert with lots of been there and done that. You don't want to be someone FIRST Orchiectomy. Contact teaching hospitals in your area that have a Urology program. Ask to talk to the Triage nurse and spell out your problem and ask them if they have a surgeon who knows about Orchialgia and if he/she has experience with doing Orchiectomy surgery.

Self Castrations have killed :-| one friend from the Archive. Actually it was complications from his Do It Yourself procedure. He was a medical student and ought to have known better. Don't be the next!

First of all this guy is not my buddy and secondly I would not be the guys first Orchiectomy but his 8th and all the others have gone without major complictions other than a burst stitch. Now however he uses staples as he finds these better. I'm not that stupid, ignorant or desperate to just allow any old cutter or buddy to do the procedure.

Before: Shave everything smooth. Don't eat 12-hours before. Void baldder and bowels. Wipe down with antiseptic.

During: Pray.

After: Keep the area clean and sterile. Wear a supporter and lots of sterile pads. Keep your feet elevated and try not to exert yourself. Wait for drainage to stop. Pray.

If I have to pray during the procedure, I am either making the wrong decision or have choosen the wrong person to perform the procedure; or am I missing something more subtle? I dont intend doing it until I am happy with the person who's going to be doing it as I'm 100% sure that I'm going to have the procedure.

If you do not take any hormone replacement you almost for certain will get osteoporosis. It seems that most eunuch's I know seem to get the disease if not on HRT. The ones that say that they do not, may not have been tested for osteoporosis. You do not know you have it till it is advanced. Eunuch's castrated in their 20's have been found to have the disease in their 20's. Less then 2 years after my castration I was tested for osteoporosis and found to have it. Even taking more then enough calcium and vitamin D did not prevent it.

Just something to think about.
