How much did your system costs, monetarily and effort to set and have it to this point? What I paid is about what I can afford. Can you provide support to others that follow in your footsteps? [Just kidding ;) .] The spec's you list are far beyond what most people [I think} have. I guess, that's a major part of the issue, associated costs.)

I'm using that computer mostly for graphics programs, Photoshop, Poser, and Vue. When I bought that particular computer, it came with 32 bit Windows Vista installed. My hard drive crashed, and I was going to have to reinstall everything, so I decided to upgrade to Vista Ultimate 64 bit with 8GB of ram. I had just purchased Poser Pro, which is will operate as a 64 bit program, and which runs much better on a 64 bit system. I can render files 3 or 4 times larger than the ones I can render on a 32 bit system, and they render much quicker. I still have a computer running 32 bit XP, on which I run most of my 32 bit programs.

I'm not saying that everyone needs a system like mine, but I'm saying that on it, Vista works great. I wouldn't even think of installing Vista on my other computer.

To upgrade, I had to purchase Vista Ultimate and 8 GB of ram, a new power supply, and a new hard drive, I probably spent an additional $500. I spent about $1000 on the original HP computer.

As far as costs are concerned, I spend most of my free time on my computers working with the graphics programs or running my websites. I drive a shit car, because I'd rather spend my money on computers than on a new car. I don't say that everyone should have the same priorities. It's important to me to have the best computer I can afford. I bought my first computer in 1981, and I've had at least one ever since.

Thanks much for your response, as well as the responses of others. I'm still in learn mode.
