How Now Vista?
When Vista first came out I read a lot of criticism from people who said that it was so strongly biased in favour of the music and movie industries that a person was unable even to play his own legitimate stuff on it. One critic wondered if Microsoft werent committing commercial suicide by digital rights management.
Lately I havent seen much of that sort of criticism. Is it still a problem or have MS since relaxed their over stringent anti-piracy measures?

I think it's more a case that people aren't using it as much as XP. A lot of people getting new machines "downgrade" them to XP so they don't have to deal with Vista. They all count for sales of course.
Personally I have used it with Service Pack 1 and still don't know of any program that requires it, or any other reason I'd want to switch to it. I also have a buddy who got a Sony Vaio with Vista last year as is quite happy with it (although windows update doesn't work).

Everyone I know that has gotten a new box in the past year or so that came with it, has deleted it and in most cases installed XP-SP2. A couple installed Linux. I have messed around with Vista on my neighbor lady's computer. I loathe it.

Vista was bundled with my PC when I bought it and hate it. I did not realize how much "reporting" it does to Microsoft until Zonealarm kept notifying me that it was trying to "report home" repeatedly. Give me XP any day!!

Ha! I hate to admit this because I know to some people this will sound like I'm some kind of nut. I downgraded to Win2k. Vista is a PIG... XP is slightly better... Win2k is not great but dear God I'm sick of needing to quadrouple my PC horsepower to keep running this SHIT!
Microsoft? You suck.... And where I want to go today is AWAY from your overpriced garbage that shuts off if I change hardware too often then forces me to phone India for another secret number...
How many days are lost screwing with this junk?
Its so..... Time for a OS revolution...

I never UPgraded FROM Windows 2000 SP4.
Where do you think XP was born?
When 2000 has a glitch, shove an XP driver down its throat and it'll work 99% of the time. It's quiet, doesn't crash very often (I've had this happen like 12 times since it first came out back in the day), and it leaves you alone so you can get work done.
It's also, in my opinion, the best OS Microshaft ever made - probably why they abandoned it! It wasn't buggy enough.

Re: How Now Vista?
Two of my friends bought me an e Machine that came with Vista Basic. I do not like this operating system. It seems to fail frequently, but the problem may be that I don't like the e Machine as I liked my faulty Dell XPS before it failed.
I failed a job screening test a couple of years ago. I think I failed because I had grown used to my old XP system and had no experience with a cheaper system. I feel as if I were using the toy version of my old computer.

I agree 2000 was/is a great OS (as was OS/2)...2000 wasn't for the home market though, so they had to add the bells and whistles for home users, game players and the like..I like XP well enough, but I believe i had less issues with 2000 also.

It seems to have been more hype than substance. I've been running Vista now since it came out, and have not had one problem with DRM. That includes DVDs, legitimate copies, and... well... gray area media. So either MS completely relaxed their big push in this area, or the issue wasn't one.
That being said, I have not attempted to do anything with blu-ray yet. The whole DRM chain they have set up is complete bullshit, and I'm surprised I haven't heard more people bitching about that. Oh wait, blu-ray has been very slow to catch on, at least in home computers. Maybe there's a reason.
To watch videos in 1080i, not only do you need a blu-ray drive, but every piece of equipment that video passes through has to be DRM compliant. Your computer can be brand new, but if you're using an older monitor you don't get to watch your movie in hi-def. Read upon HDCP to find out more.
