They generally are not looking for your testosterone. Regardless, if you take it in the box/package that has your name and prescription information on it, they can't do anything about it, at least in the USA. Other countries I cannot speak for, but I had no problem traveling from the US to Canada, The Netherlands, South Africa, and Swaziland with Androgel in my luggage.

You'd think a lack of testicles, noted in your chart, would negate this stupid 6 months to prove continued need. You don't have balls, you'll need testosterone, assuming the goal isn't asexuality.

Regarding flying; I received a printed notice with my Androgel that specifically said taking Androgel on an airplane, either in carry on or in checked baggage is in violation of FAA rules. Most recent trip was inside the USA for 2 weeks so I did not take my Androgel. No particular physical or emotional consequences for that period of time.

Last year I left the country and did not return for 2 months. I was pre scheduled for a blood test following my return. For the first few weeks, no particular problem, but towards the end of the trip I was getting some disturbing physical consequences of no Androgel. The blood test revealed my Free Testosterone was 4. This confirmed to me and my physician that my body definitely is not producing testosterone and I need the Androgel. I am leaving the country again for a month this year and will be checking with my physician to see what, if anything can be done to keep my T level up.

I am not positive what caused it; either an infection in the prostate, or perhaps bladder. In either case it went into my testicles. The infection made them almost double in size, they became extremely painful. There was no particular pain in either the prostate or bladder. After about 2 weeks on an antibiotic, the pain and infection ceased; however subsequent to that my balls shrank, became very hard and numb. Subsequent testing determined that there was no blood flow in them and they were infarcted (eg. dead) and produced no testosterone.

I'll ask you be more specific. What was the reason given in the note? In the USA the TSA cannot deny you ability to carry your prescribed medication with you. They may make you go through extra screening, but it is not prohibited.

It's my experience a drug prescribed for daily use cannot be prohibited for you to take enough supply with you to cover the duration of your trip. I've never had a problem.

Unfortunately I did not keep a copy of the pre printed notice. It was from the mail order pharmacy that I get Androgel from. I will look into it further and ask my physician. Since Androgel is flammable it may not qualify.

My mail order pharmacy requires a renewal of Androgel every 6 months. I just go online and request a renewal. They send it to my physician who renews it.

The main issue is that a 12 month supply puts me into the prescription drug donut hole so by the time I place my order for the last 3 months of the year the cost is about $150 per bottle. They send 3 bottles at a time for a 90 day supply.

I have asked questions about supplying and transporting Testosterone. My doctor informs me that, subject to state laws, Testosterone can only be prescribed for 6 months at a time because of the drug classification. Some drug suppliers will limit to dispensing 3 months or 1 month per prescription. I have failed to get a response from TSA. My contacts at the airport report that there is A LOT of discretion allowed to individual TSA inspectors in interpreting rules. Some do not consider Testosterone to be " essential medication" as it is not needed to support life. Also, some require an original prescription to be presented at the time of inspection. I am sure that there are also inspectors who either abuse the rules or are ignorant of them. You are allowed to appeal to the TSA supervisor if you disagree with a decision. I don't know if this is a wise idea or not. --FLO--

There are a lot of things that are allowed on planes that are flammable. Hair gels, hair sprays, deodorants, your clothes. I don't think that's the prohibition, and a bottle of Androgel is about 3.1 ounces, just over, but you should be able to take it so long as you have your prescription label with you. Frankly, I've never had my 3-1-1 quart bag tossed, nor have I been questioned no matter what I've had in it.

I think this is a non-concern.

I don't know what 3.1 oz is in ml but if >100ml then it has to go in the hold.

I wear contact lenzes and they do not allow the soloutions in the hand luggage (In 120ml bottles),so I have to charge up four or five storage cases before I fly.

I usually pack a couple of syringes in my backpack and a small (2ml) vial of test in the clear resealable bag along with my toothpastes and deodarant sticks.

Never had a problem.

3.1 ounce is about 92ml
