A common misconception about banding, in this case, the notorious and well-known green rings, is their size. Being designed for small animals, such as baby goats, they are indeed made to hang onto "small balls". Given that human scrotums are much larger, one would be led to believe that they'd hang on better. As Dave mentioned, there's the smell. With scrotum/testicles intact, that band isn't going anywhere. However, once the scrotum and contents are sliced off, the danger of the bands slipping off is (logically, and so I've read) much higher.
I became familiar with this concept at a young age, as Grandpa worked for a nearby farmer, and many of the other neighbors had goats, sheep, and such. However, a kid goat's scrotum is much different than a human's, as is his immune system.
The main difference in the "hanging on" part is that no cutting was involved with the animals; the band was put on, and left on, and the unknowing little critter would stumble off and seemingly recover himself in a bit. It didn't happen often, but one complication was infection. Another was failure of an artery to seal, and bleeding when the band eventually came off. Of course, being out in the open air with no clothes on helped a lot in the castration process, I'm sure. However, I've only read one account of this method being employed successfully without medical intervention.
If those bands slip off, you've got 2 testicular arteries there hanging open to bleed all over.
If anyone communicates with this fellow regularly, please find out if he's OK. I'm sure his inbox is swamped right now on that site!

. I've heard of another person getting through the pain and he was found out when his balls began to smell of death.
Ain't nothing like that smell. I had a deer die in my back yard and I found it by the smell. Another time a bird died after smacking a window and rotted behind a shrub.
I heard a dead rotting human body has a sweet scent
Is that true?

"Sweet" is not a word that I would use.
Let me suggest a tiny experiment -- go buy a bloody piece of meat. In my case, two petite sirloin steaks would do just as long as they are bloody. Then wipe them down with a paper towel. Make sure the paper towel gets all the bloody mess. You can put the fat trimmings with that paper towel. Now put that bloody paper towel and the trimmings aside, don't throw it away, just put it aside on a small plate or bowl...
I suggest that you cook and eat the sirloin with a nice baked potato and some vegetables. Enjoy the meal.
While you are cooking, set the bloody paper towel and the plate in a warm and dry place. Let is site overnight and then smell it. Wait another day or two and smell again. . . That's what rotten meat smells like.
"Sweet" is not a word that I would use.
The day that I discovered the deer 50 feet from my house next to a fallen tree was the day I knew exactly what smell maggots and other slimy things love. And you know those "gag a maggot" diapers on some little kiddies, they smell like petunias by comparison.

I watched the videos and can't say much more than has been said. He deliberately set out to do the deed and succeeded.

I know how animal spoiled meat smells, but human scent is different from animal scent!

I have cut my testicles off after banding. I did cut first one out 2008 and second one 2013. After banding with two rings pain lasts about 1 hr 30 minutes and after that it subsides and disappears fast. I didn't have any complications either time. After banding I did cut testicle off within 4 hr. If you look at Trentags's video how difficult it is for him to remove band from testicles that he cut off you will realize that ring don't slip anywhere very easily. Seems that there was much longer time in Trentags case before he cut them off because some parts were visibly black. Probably at least two days.

From what I saw on the video, Trentag was pass the point of having any issue with the bands slipping off unless he purposely tried to remove them. If he leaves things alone he would not have a problem. The compression of the bands seals off the arteries, actually they're crushed and once crushed to the point where blood cannot flow, clots form and seal off the blood vessels and arteries. There is "cell death" and "tissue death" and clotting to prevent bleeding. The process of cell and tissue death does not take long, approximately 4-6 hours, however, it does depend on the number of bands used. The more bands used, the quicker scrotum and testicle death occurs. The one thing that prevents most men from using this method is pain, however, obtaining powerful numbing agents is becoming easier. I suspect we will see more of these banding castrations in the future. Depression is the scary thing for him now.

paring,
There is registration for the Selective Service, but there is no draft. US military is voluntary enrollment.
I would imagine, lacking testicles, that one would be turned down for enlistment.
Interesting you bring that up. When I was in the army, it was specifically mentioned in the field manuals that the unexplained absence or one or both testicles was grounds for refusing entry to the service, and grounds for discharge from it. I looked it up while I was in the Army 20 years ago.
Of course, that could change now that things are opening up in the US armed forces.
