I was never offered the possibility of injecting myself, which would have been so much more convenient for me. Were you taught how to give yourself the injections and does your health centre provide the needles and syringes? Sorry if this seems like Question Time but if I have to return to Testosterone I'd like the chance to administer it myself.

I think you will see a great many changes as your levels decline. Part of the thing about hormones is they are sort of the window into our "normal" so I think it becomes a new normal for people. ie you get "used" to being uninterested in sex or tired or moody or feeling things that look like depression. Some people react to this in a very negative way (like me) others have the ability to normalize it better and I think this group are the ones who talk about the "calm" of castration. For me it felt more like the "I'm so totally fucked & feel like shit" but... Thats me.

As to injections. I don't really know how its done in the UK but here in the US you have to ask. In my experience they don't suggest it. Maybe its because they make a few bucks on office visits or they have to deal with less idiotic problems that way? I dunno...

If you ask they will bring you in for a class. A nurse (Or the Doctor) will talk you through an injection. Show you how its done in detail and my give you some basic instruction sheet to take home. Then you will be asked to come in when your due for your next injection and show that you know how to do one. If you are able to self inject you probably get a prescription for syringes and your good to go.

I do self injections myself and while I admit the first one was difficult its next to nothing now. "Shots" hurt more (I think) when someone else does them. The main difference is that Nurses all seem to want to stab it in and get it over with. When I do them myself I do it a bit slower and I think this makes the prick a 'nothing' Also if your doing a muscular injection (Testosterone) a nice trick is to give the injection site a good slap first. Then use the pad to clean the area. The smack takes away any sting (for me anyway)

Here is the "cheat Sheet" that I brought to my class. The nurse was really impressed and said this was excellent. Its the 101 on Testosterone injections that was developed for the F2M transexual folks.

http://www.forge-forward.org/handouts/injection.pdf

The Nurse made copies btw! So I think its good stuff.

There is also a good YouTube video of this with a Nurse who shows exactly where on the leg to inject but... Can't remember where I tagged that. Youtube Testosterone Injection there are dozens (hundreds?) of videos. Watching the effect on F2M transexuals will give you an idea just how powerful this stuff it btw...

A trick to make shots less painful is to always change out the needle after you draw the shot up. Because the rubber stopper dulls the needle so much. Also, Terumo brand needles are the sharpest in the world. BD makes better syringes though, because they have bigger "wings" where your fingers can have a good grip during the shot. So I use a 20g BD (http://www.gpzservices.com/items/produc ... detail.htm) (comes with 20g needle already attached to the syringe) to draw the shot, then unscrew the 20g needle and put on a 22g or 23g Terumo needle (http://www.gpzservices.com/items/produc ... detail.htm).

I've started to do that but maybe for a slightly different reason. I used 23 Gauge needles until just short time ago when out of curiosity I picked up a couple 25 Gauge needles. Drawing the testosterone with this is just barely possible (but a pain) so I use a larger one 22 or 23 to draw in the Testosterone then I inject with the 25 (Which has of course never been in the bottle or anywhere else so it ought to be super sharp. I think the slap the area trick is still good. At one time I used an ice cube to try to numb up the area but the slap works better.

*And for those that don't know the larger the Gauge the smaller (Diameter) the syringe. So 25 is smaller (And pretty pain free) vs 16 HUGE (The first type I used *I think the nurse wanted to see me scream)

BTW do you use 1" or do you use a longer needle? And how far in do you press the needle. I used to push it in about 3/4 of the way and not go to the hub but saw a few youtubes where the doctor showed that you want the full inch (or more???) Flab I'm sure is part of the answer... :(

I go virtually all the way. And I use 1" because I have low fat, so it's deep enough in the muscle for me. For leg shots, I don't go the whole inch in though, may about 3/4 inches in.

BTW, if a compounding pharmacy were to use ethyl oleate as the carrier oil instead of sesame seed oil, it makes it very thin, almost like water, and shots can be done with a very thin needle. Sesame seed oil is about the thickest there is, and Cotton seed is right behind it. If sesame seed oil is used, and little or no Benzyl Benzoate is used, the outcome is a very thick shot that barely passes through even a 22g. 🙋

I do best using a 20g 1 1/2 inch needle. I prefer to go into my leg an go about 1 to 1 1/4 inches deep. The large needles work well with cotton seed oil. --FLO--

A 20g in the leg? You're one tough bastard then. :-|

BTW, if one is especially lean, and isn't injecting a terribly high volume of oil, they can get away with using an insulin syringe that's a 29g and 5/8 inch for leg shots. Most men on HRT would only use 1/2 cc per week, which would be a half cc per shot per week. With such a low volume of oil, injections don't have to be very deep. A 5/8" 29g needle would be OK. Just that it takes a couple of minutes to draw up a shot. BUT because of hydraulics, it will zip right through a 29g needle easily when pressing down on the plunger.
