Bald eunuchs?

Post by nullorchis (imported) »

According to an article on www.articlesbase.com "Hair Loss Prevention- Why Do Castrated Men Never Go Bald?" there is some evidence that low or no testosterone will help men from loosing their hair. Hair loss is also attributed to genetic DNA and diet, but "The reason behind hair loss is a genetically inherited sensitivity to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and 5-alpha-reductase. The enzyme 5-alpha-reductase converts testosterone, a male hormone, to DHT, the substance identified as the end-cause for hair loss."

For those of you who are physically or chemically castrated, or have low T, hows your head of hair? Full, thinning, bald, recovering from baldness after castration?

And what about other body hair? Why is it that men go bald on their head, but don't loose body or genital hair? It would seem that if one has a genetically inherited sensitivity to DHT, all of your body hair would fall out, even eyebrows. Just one of the oddities of life. I suppose someone would go for castration just to try and keep a full head of hair though that seems a bit radical for someone who would be so vain about their hair and not care about loosing their sexuality and libido.

Sometime around 10 years ago I started on flowmax and 10mg of proscar if I remember the dose. It is the double of the hair lose dose. This was all under doctors care. No change in hair loss on the head. Minor changes in the rest of the body. 2003 I started taking androcur. July 2005 I was castrated. My hair loss in the front is still going back. The hair is still thining out on the top. It has not stoped it. At best it may have slowed it down just a little.

I had not much body hair to start with. My arm and leg hair is much finer and more blond in color. More how it was when I was a child. Groin hair is less.

For me at least castration did not really do much for my head hair loss. I did not grow any hair back that I did loose. A good amount that I did loose was only in the past few years.

My male-pattern-baldness continued after castration in 2001, but that's probably because I've been on Testosterone replacement.

I just shave my head! Problem solved!

I haven't noticed any change, but I'm HRT also, so I really didn't expect any change in the first place.

Thanks for info. I found this info:

A study in mice indicated that ketoconazole may have a stimulatory effect on hair growth.[14] Nizoral shampoo has shown to be beneficial in men suffering from androgenic alopecia. One 1998 study showed that Nizoral 2% worked just as well as minoxidil 2% (brand name Rogaine) in men with androgenic alopecia. Both medicines increased hair thickness and increased the number of anagen-phase hair follicles on the scalp. Researchers were guarded about the meaning of these results, saying that more rigorous studies on larger groups of men should be done to confirm the findings, both to evaluate the ideal dosage and formulation, and to assess the desirability of routine treatment in this condition. Nizoral Shampoo only has FDA approval for the treatment of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, so although Nizoral may be useful as a hair loss remedy, it cannot be endorsed or marketed as one to the general public.[15]

Results so far indicate that both the 1% and 2% dosages have positive hair loss benefits; however the more potent 2% formulation could have better results. Optimal usage is speculated at every third day, leaving the shampoo on the scalp for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. It has been stated that medications capable of maintaining the existing hair population should be regarded as effective treatments for androgenic alopecia. The present data suggest that ketoconazole should enter this group of drugs.[16]

WHAT ELSE DOES KETOCONAZOLE DO? When taken orally, 200mg:

The side-effects of ketoconazole are sometimes used to treat non-fungal problems. The decrease in testosterone caused by the drug makes it useful for treating prostate cancer and for preventing post-operative erections following penile surgery.

--------------------------

Comment: UNKNOWN if applying Rogaine to genitals is safe, unsafe, or if it will decrease testosterone and/or increase growth of genital hair.

Back in the day when I used to shave my head ( I can hear IE scream now ), I belonged to an online group about it. One member used a Philips/Norelco tweezing razor to shave his head. In effect, it yanked out the fuzz and short stubble, and over time, he claims it resulted in permanent baldness on the scalp. He was already balding, too. I have my doubts as to if this would work on body hair, and would no doubt be quite painful and even cause rashes and/or swelling.

A drop in testosterone in your body may or may not result in some - but not total - body hair loss. I lost a lot of mine when my levels fell. (illness). One thing that did do as well was "freeze" my scalp hair loss. No more has fallen out, but little to none came back either.

I don't know of any drug that will force hair loss apart from chemotherapy and I don't believe that would be appropriate. If you don't have a virtual forest of body hair you could try using a depilatory cream. Please bear in mind these creams contain chemicals that might irritate your skin so try a small area first as a test. I found creams effective but expensive so nowadays I wet-shave in the shower once a week. I don't think depilatory creams are safe for use on the scalp; best to have a barber zero-crop your hair then go home and wet-shave your head. You'll need a good quality shaving-gel and razor - I find a Mach-3 gives a really close smooth shave. Be sure to wear a hat in extreme temperatures so you don't get a chill or suffer sunburn - you won't have any fur to protect your scalp!

A totally bald head makes a man look younger than a partially bald head.

Good luck!

Interesting subject. Would it be probable to entirely stop the hair loss in an eunuch if they suppressed their estrogen hormone?
