Nero 48 – The Saga Continues

Post by JesusA (imported) »

Pueros has provided us with yet another chapter in the on-going autobiography of Bicilus.

Those few of us who read the Archive and who are also well up on our Roman history know where the story is taking us. We’re enjoying the leisurely journey through familiar terrain (though with enough historically plausible twists and turns to keep us excited and guessing about what’s around the next bend).

Those of you who don’t know the destination can sit back and enjoy the trip. Enjoy the scenery and the interesting company that’s along for the ride. You will be pleased and amazed to discover where we are all headed with this story.

I thank Jesus for his kind comments, as I do Stan for his earlier similar remarks and other loyal readers who have steadfastly followed the lengthy ‘autobiography’ of my Bicilus.

I know that for some people, ‘Nero’ is too long-winded, as well as too long-worded. However, there are others like Jesus and Stan who appear to have different attitudes. They seem to enjoy a slow stroll through the history of Rome in the second half of the 1st century in the company of the various characters, all of whom truly existed, pausing on the way to take in comprehensive details of sights, sounds and smells. It is for this latter readership that I’ll continue the saga until the distant end, as long, of course, as eunuch.org retains the patience to permit me my whim.

The saga should also not ultimately be a straight retelling of current thought about the period, with speculation to fill gaps in our knowledge thrown on top, as I hope to introduce some major surprises for the historically learned in the storyline, which will challenge present wisdom. There’ll also be more castrations than chapters!

I therefore hope that the loyal readers continue to enjoy and find interesting their future journeying with Bicilus through ancient Rome!
