A CITY Council of Nairobi askari chopped off a street boy's genitals on Sunday evening, her mother has reported. The askari is said to haveassaulted the 11-year-old who is a class four pupil ata school in Westlands, Nairobi, that admits street children and those from poor homes. The boy's mother (name withheld to protect the identity of the child) said her son was in critical condition at Nairobi Women's Hospital. “My son said the askari was doingthat so that he can serve as an example to other street families.He said the askari pulled and elongated his penis before chopping itoff,” she said amid sobs.

The boy's mother said the council askarifrequents the area around Nakumatt Lifestyle supermarket and arrested his son at 6pm and beat him up before chopping off the penis. Other street kids said that they knowthe askari and that if the council askaris are paraded, they will identify him. Muthoni was joined by members of otherstreet families, hawkers and sex workerswho marched to City Hall to demand the arrest of the askari. “We gays have rights. Childrenhave rights too. The askaris have harassed us for long. They wantto chop off our genitals so that they can sell them. We know it,”chanted Dennis Nzioka, a gay rights activist.

Cidi Otieno, the president of Bunge La Mwananchi added, “We want an end to harassment by city council askaris.Commercial sex workers are people too. It should end because thisis impunity.” Mayor George Aladwa said he hadreceived their petition and will investigate with a view to identifying and prosecuting the askari. “The law must be followed. Please bepatient and we will act on this matter," Aladwa said.

I always feel so sorry for these young boys, to have your penis cut off by someone is just horrible especially when it's done against your will, a disgusting act that will cause this poor boy to be sexually frustrated for the rest of his life. It's one thing for many of us to want a penectomy, but it's another thing to rob someone of his penis and therefore his sexuality before he can even enjoy it. So so sad.
