Autopsy: Pastor found in wet suits after autoerotic mishap

OCTOBER 8--An Alabama minister who died in June of "accidental mechanical asphyxia" was found hogtied and wearing two complete wet suits, including a face mask, diving gloves and slippers, rubberized underwear, and a head mask, according to an autopsy report.

Investigators determined that Rev. Gary Aldridge's death was not caused by foul play and that the 51-year-old pastor of Montgomery's Thorington Road Baptist Church was alone in his home at the time he died (while apparently in the midst of some autoerotic undertaking).

While the Montgomery Advertiser, which first obtained the autopsy records, reported on Aldridge's two wet suits, the family newspaper chose not to mention what police discovered inside the minister's rubber briefs.

Aldridge served as the church's pastor for 16 years. Immediately following his death, church officials issued a press release asking community members to "please refrain from speculation" about what led to Aldridge's demise, adding that, "we will begin the healing process under the strong arm of our Savior, Jesus Christ."

This is a bit of a sad tale. I don't know why it should be anyone's business to splash all of these details in the newspapers. After all the gentleman was in the privacy of his own home and not harming anyone else. Whle he is now beyond all that I am sure that there would have been people close to him in his family and congregation who would have been hurt and/or offended by these revelations. It just smacks to me of voyeurism for the sake of selling a few more newspapers. I am not sure that the public's right to know should extend this far.

If they are out front bashing those who they are secretly emulating, I would say it may well be warranted. It puts the boot to what they were saying, and points to the fact that even ultra conservative baptists can be human, get kinky, and can have a good leg up on bigotry and hypocracy. If you stand too high on too many soap boxes, if someone doesn't knock you over, all the hot air and wind will. There's the old joke of two pigs falling in the mud, and three coming out - I suspect they were baptists....
