If your using a strict definition of the word "know" then I think the answer is no especially if one is speaking of some one other than one's self. OTOH if one is are speaking of your one's own self, then I think the answer maybe yes.

Pain is one. Serious Atrophy making them a "joke" is maybe not a reason but combine the two? And you have a reason that works for some.

The two, pain, and gender, really playa huge role in why i am the way i am. Every day, i thank myself for getting out of bed, with the strength to face the world, along with the others that it contains.

Mental illness could be a cause, it's been proven that some mentally ill patients have done this. Drug abuse. Back in the early 90's a man who was using cocaine cut off his penis & testicles, after the effects wore off and he was released from the hospital, he committed suicide. Gender rejection or dysphoria can also push people to cut off their penis & testicles. Some might even conclude demonic possession.

There are countless different reasons. Opinions differ on how valid each of them is.

Being bipolar and suffering from hypersexuality during mania can cause some to contemplate castration. Like I wouldn't know anything about that...

I just knew they had to go and I needed a change in my life thats the only way I can explane it.Now that its done I know its the best thing I have done for me in my life.
