Travels with Zipper

I read very few of the stories on the Archive; usually only checking every two or three weeks to see if there is something new by one of the authors who is one of my friends or acquaintances (C van D, Kortpeel, Paolo, Pueros, Slammr, etc.). Usually, I only read stories by other authors when there is a favorable review posted here on the Story Reviews and Feedback board.

Recently, a title, Summer in the Steens, caught my eye and I read a new contribution by Zipper. The story is in two sections: Part 1 is HERE (http://www.eunuch.org/Alpha/S/ea_101940summer_i.htm) and Part 2 is HERE (http://www.eunuch.org/Alpha/S/ea_102350summer_i.htm).

While Zipper has taken a bit of artistic license with his place description, it is mostly exactly as I remember the area. For example, I’ve driven the road between Fields and Crane. It’s definitely much more than a half hour! Even flying low, as I used to do when I was younger, it’s about two hours.

The story is (according to Zipper) closely based on fact. I believe it and can see myself and my two younger brothers easily playing the roles of the hero’s three cousins. It sounds just like the gang of us at that age.

The story is a wonderful read by a master storyteller! Since discovering this one, I’ve gone into the index (http://www.eunuch.org/story_index_picker.php) to the Story Board to find that Zipper has written a number of outstanding stories that demonstrate an overlap in territory and background with me and also with Slammr (who’s more southwest Oregon). I wonder if we’ve ever met in reality….

Zipper is not a registered member of the Archive; at least not under that name. I think I’d like to know more about him and his background. I know that I’m going to send a copy of his story to my cousin in Los Angeles who could very easily have been the hero of his tale. (I can see him passing it on, claiming that he WAS the hero….)

Highly recommended!

I, too, am impressed with Zipper's writing. He tells a good story and tells it well, with skill, writing much better than many main stream authors.
