I just read the article on "The Sopranos" posted by Eunuchist and Jesus. At the end of the article, the writer described how Dr. Spector's assistant had taken lessons in opera, and he sang a few bars in an unusually high pitched voice. According to the article, the assistant was operated on by Dr. Spector after he was thirty years old. I thought that once someone's voice changed, it couldn't be returned to a high pitch except temporarily by breathing helium. Does anyone know if someone's voice gets higher after he has this kind of operation, after the voice has changed? Or was that part of the article just fantasy journalism?

I got to this site through a link from a site called Body Modification Extreme. This is all quite different from most websites. I get this odd feeling that here is something that most people feel is really off the wall, and I never paid much attention to eunuchs and that kind of thing, but here is a site with people posting about people being castrated, like it's just part of the normal lifestyle of people. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with anybody or with the site, but it just seems odd. I've read several other articles in the nonfiction part of the site, and they are interesting. I don't think I ever saw anybody who was a eunuch.

I was looking at tattoo sites, which is how I got to Body Modification Extreme, to try to see if there is any information about removing discoloration which is in the flesh, not just in the skin. This is from a scar that I got several years ago. The scar is not noticeable except for a black line in the flesh, where apparently something got into the wound and has stayed in the flesh. Not a big thing, but I would like to get rid of it. I've been to several doctors, and they say that I'd probably get a more noticeable scar from having the stuff cut out than if I just left it in. If anybody here knows of any methods for removing discoloration in the flesh without surgery, I'd like any information you have. It's too deep for laser removal and the colored stuff is probably particles of something

Welcome Beau Geste to the Eunuch Archive. You have stumbled accross a wonderful community. Many of us are eunuchs and some like yourself are curious about eunuchs. In answer to your first concern no our voices do not rise after castration. His assistant may have been able to sing in the counter tenor range prior to surgery. My voice has remained the same. Unable to sing in any range.

As far as the scarring problems if someone has good advice they will surely share that with you. Feel free to ask questions and participate if something is of interest. We respect each other and share our knowledge and experiences.

You haven't stumbled, you've arrived. This is a eunuch community with many true eunuchs, myself included. Most of us were castrated because we felt out of control sexually or we had a strange compulsion to be castrated or we are transgendered. I was out of control and I had a terrible desire to have my balls removed. So I visited Dr. Murray Kimmel in Philadelphia, and was castrated in March of this year. Dr. Kimmel will castrate a man without any psychiatrist letters for $2000. It's been a wonderful experience. My wife loves the new me.

As to voice changes, I haven't experienced anything, though I am taking low dose testosterone to prevent osteoporosis and some other illnesses that occur with the depletion of testosterone. I do not know anything about tattoo's, but I'm sure you'll get some responses. Check out my posts. Hash

P.S. You've probably met or know a eunuch, but not many of us come right out and say, "Hey, I'm a eunuch!" It takes time to develop a friendship were you feel comfortable telling the person.

In answer to your main question, once the vocal cords have lengthed during puberty through the influence of testosterone, they do not shrink once it's removed. I suspect fantasy journalism. Male-to-Female transsexuals struggle to speak in a higher pitch and a very few of them have (dangerous) surgery to reduce the length of the vocal cords.

On your other question, YES, you probably do know a eunuch. Over 80,000 men are castrated for prostate cancer each year in the United States. Given their life expectancy after castration, there are nearly three quarters of a million of them. There are probably about a quarter of a million testicular cancer eunuchs as well, though most of them go on full testosterone replacement therapy, which the prostate cancer eunuchs cannot do.
