I debated whether this set of short poems belongs here, or in the Deep, Dark Cellar, or even in Political Discussions.

Today I had lunch with an old friend who enjoys writing “Clerihews.” A clerihew is a verse biography in four lines, aa bb in format, with the person’s name in the first line. They are usually untitled, but he added an appropriate title to the last one posted here (and that poem is the reason why I’m sharing them).

That horny general Julius Caesar

An equal-opportunity squeezer ––

A boy, a girl, a random mule:

That he did not learn in school.

*****

Saddam Hussain al-Tikriti

With a list of crimes so meaty,

Will soon be facing trial.

Condign justice? Not by a mile!

*****

President Smirk and V.P. Sneer

Pretended no fear:

Baghdad’s capture

Was their personal Rapture.

Oh! How will history depict

Our new-made Papa Benedict?

Needle and latex holocaust––

Protect the Faith at any cost.
