If worse comes to worse, and no one there can, I can.

That's part of my line of work.

I've seen worse, believe me.

Let me know if you can't find anyone and we'll set something up.

You can use a dazzle box to convert analog video into a digital format on your computer, then dump it to a disk

You will need a player for that tape. There are at least two 8mm tape formats, then there is the new DVT tape format. If it's the DVT tape that is alread is a digital format, but any Analog tape you play the tape into the Digitizing box (dazzle box) or a ATI all in one with video capture, and save it as a mov/wma/mpg file (file format depends on user software). The DVT tapes you use the software that came with the camera or player to transfer to your computer.

Good Luck

There should be some printing on the cassette somewhere telling you what format of tape it is.

if the camcorder has firewire/iee1394 conector you can pick up a firewire

pci card cheep using software provided with card or windows movie maker

you can capture the video to the hard drive of your pc and then you can

make a dvd from it or burn the file to cd or dvd

Satanherself,

While it is relatively easy to convert tapes to DVD, your problem is that the subject matter is not something you can just take to anyone for help. I suggest your best bet is Paolo or someone else on the Archive who is both comfortable with castration material and computer savvy.

The setup required does take some money (need a player, capture card, and good enough computer to do the processing), so unless you're already a computer expert with money to spare I suggest you let someone who is already set up for hit do it.
