As a young boy riding my bike when my feet would slip off of the pedals and I hit the middle bar I would tumble to the ground locked in the fetal position and ask why God, why are testicles external and so vulnerable?

Yes, it makes a lot of sense to have them on the outside. Ask any farmer or rancher. Since T affects the personality of both humans and animals, so much better to have them within easy reach.

What about the extreme pain testicles can cause? That is God's reminder to little boys to be careful with those dangly things which are in such easy reach.

I'd just like to get my hands on the masochist who made a bar for the boys bikes, and none for the girls.

I've preferred girl's bikes for that very reason. Did get a few rude remarks in college from boys who thought I should be riding a boy's bike. (Maybe it was the pink streamers? )

Birds have testicles inside the body, and they seem to reproduce quite fine.

It does seem as though the male mammal was designed to have the option of removing the male parts.

And why oh why do boys bikes have the high crossbars? That's just asking for trouble

Has anyone thought that God, all our Gods, preferred to protect the female rather than the male. Men and boys seem to waste their seed by jerking off from the time they can squirt and then never stop. We have plenty of seed to spew but women only produce so many eggs.

That is why there are vertical bars on boys bicycles and not on girls. They must be protected and boys are expendable. Just ask Pres. Bush... hehehe.

Actually, in all seriousness, (my ancient Anglo history is rather bad at the best of times!), but wasn't the female sacred in Pagan culture? I think the pentagram is supposed to stand for something along those lines.

Of course, when the Roman invaded in the summer of 42A.D, the people were forced to adopt 'male' Christianity or face genocide. Which recast the female as inferior, and the God as male.

And it was as much a war of minds as it was bodies. The idea that a youthful and fertile female was sacred was turned on it's head: by sterotyping as an old sexless (and single!) witch who eats children (usually in the very cauldron that would be used to cure sickness)

And of course, the legend of Boudicca, formerly a queen of the Iceni tribe (an area now known as East Anglia?) who was stripped of her title (partly because she was female, partly because of the Romans restructuring the social/political landscape) and ended up fighting the romans in person using gurilla tactics (sometime around 62AD)

She became a figurehead of Englands resistance against occupation.

Okay, so she failed, and since then it's been a mans world with no place for woman or eunuch. But it was the thought that counted!

The raised crossbar came first, possibly to provide strength for the frame. The drop bar on women's bikes was designed for riding while wearing a skirt or dress.
