Hung Chow calls in to work and says, "Hey, boss I not come work today,

I really sick. I got headache, stomach ache and my legs hurt. I not

come work."

The boss says, "You know, Hung Chow, I really need you today. When I

feel like this I go to my wife and tell her give me sex. That makes

everything better and I go work. You try that."

Two hours later Hung Chow calls again:

"Boss, I do what you say and I feel great. I be at work soon. You got

nice house."...

You know, this joke is quite derogatory toward Asians... Not sure if I should remove it. But on second thought, it was a White Man who suggested his wife as a cure... so I will leave it alone. 😄 😄 😄

Well, I gave it considerable thought before posting it considering that it leans on the side of bigotry. But there was something rather amusing about the entire situation. Probably would have been just as funny if the characters were changed.

It's ethnic humor, but is there really so much wrong with ethnic humor? If one is comfortable with what he is, a few jokes about his race isn't going to bother him. I'm white. People can poke fun at my race all they want. I don't care. As long as the jokes aren't vicious or malicious, I don't see anything wrong with them. We tend to be too politically correct these days. I even see it in writing were authors bend over backwards to make English gender-neutral. All it does, is make for bad writing.

Slammr, I have to agree with you and the reason I decided to post it is because it is not so much about a person of a different race than that of and Anglo Saxon, but it is more of the misunderstanding of the English language. The fact that it is ethnic personifies the linguistic problem.

However, I rechecked the main menu of the this board and I would like to quote it for those who may have missed it:

I thought that the old line of "eat chinese food and in four hours you are hungry again" might apply to the joke. huh? maybe?

Maybe one bite at the apple (So to speak) is not enough!

Studlover:

Right. That's what makes the joke funny, the misunderstanding. The man didn't have to be Chinese for the joke to work, just has to have some language other than English as his first language.

Slammr,

Absolutely! I remember a joke that was a TRUE story told by the Musicologist Dr. Carl Haus on "Adventures in Good Music."

There was a German whose name was "Sexhauer" which is as common in that part of the country as Smith and Jones is here. Seems Mr. Sexhauer had just arrived in Detroit (this was in the 1930's) and called General Motors hoping the switchboard operator could locate his cousin. The operator answered, and he said (not knowing the vast amount of employees), "Do you have a Sexhauer there?" She replied, "Hell, we don't even get a 15 minute COFFEE BREAK!"

Now, is that is "ethnic?" Hogwash!

Personally, I would like to see more jokes about us "white folks" rather than the stale Texas and Redneck jokes.

Right. Here is an ethnic joke which is not demeaning either to Germans or Swedes and is funny not because of its ethnicity but because of "the mote and the beam". Schultz and Olson, both immigrants and old friends for decades, go into a saloon together for a drink. Seated at the bar they beckon the bartender over and he asks "What'll yez have ?" Schultz replies "I vill haf a glass uff chin." Olson bursts out laughing "Chin ? CHIN ? Heinrich, you bane in dis country t'irty year and you still can't say 'yin' ? "

I think you all need to go to your rooms.

I had this uncle, he is gone now but back in the 30s and 40s he was a major league pitcher. Was the world series when in St Louis, 1946 which was a very good year. Anyway life after baseball, my uncle told jokes and stories. We spent the evening with him and the next day, he told one joke after another and not once did he tell an off colored joke, ethnic joke, or a joke agenst ones nationally. All his stuff was funny, all could be told in church.

Thank you "Red" where ever you are.
