With the new looks comes a new server!

Thanks to the generosity of Shannon over at BME, our sponsor, The Archive is getting a new server! This will be a great thing for us and works well with the new look concept.

Sometime this week, parts of The Archive will become unavailable as we begin to shut things down in favor of moving them. As they become unavailable you will get error messages informing you of the change in progress. The message board, story submissions, the poll, and the personals will be shut down for the move.

As to when things will be shut down, I guess Wednesday, as they still need to test the hardware, get it to the new location and install it.

If everything goes as planned, on July 1, I put on a pair of rubber gloves and reach over to this one meter tall red switch next to me, muster all my strength, and turn The Archive off. Some time that day I will throw the switch back on, but it make take some time for the new IP address to filter through the world. Don't be alarmed if it takes several days for you to be able to see The Archive again. It will be there.

As always the chat room will be up and operational. Point your chat client to darkstar2.tzo.com. This will be good if you have any questions while the transfer is in process.

One warning though. Thursday is the tentitive date and it may not actually occur that day. If not Thursday, then Monday.

There was some chaos last Sunday (27th June) as Paolo did some work.

Will the archives still exist? That is, the posts that we have written since we lost them all the last time? Or do we start new? I really hope that we do not lose anything.

No. Data will not be lost and that is why we will be shutting down The Archive incrementally. That way a snapshot will be taken and no new uploads allowed.

Um, er, um it actually wasn't Paolo's fault about yesterday's fiasco. I put a script in place and it went run-a-way.

Things won't happen till next week so we can all relax.

Some of the software transfer got snagged so we will begin again on Tuesday of next week.

I get next week off for vacation, but I will be here at Eunuch Central in preperation for the transfer.
