I was on Lupron for 1 1/2 years as part of the treatment for prostate cancer in '06. I hated it. IMO, it's nasty shit and I'd never do it again. Testosterone is said to be food for prostate cancer and Lupron is prescribed to lower T. At the time I knew nothing about all this. All I knew was the urologist told me they would give me a shot as part of the treatment. When you're told you have cancer your mind goes foggy and I didn't think to ask many questions. As my T lowered I became a miserable son of a bitch, lost all libido and didn't care about anything including my business. And I had no idea why. I finally got to the point of trying to figure it all out and spent a lot of time on the internet educating myself. The doctors say they tell you everything and you even sign papers agreeing with them. They lie by omission, not telling you everything. I was getting those damn Lupron injections every 3 or 4 months. I learned through my self education process that the Lupron was the cause of me being miserable. When it came time for my next injection I told the urologist I didn't want anymore. He said OK because my PSA was only .4 at the time. I feel that at $1300 per injection they would have kept injecting that shit in me for the rest of my life had I not refused to take anymore. That urologist retired and I went through 2 more before finding my current one who I really like. I asked him why I wasn't told everything. He replied, "because you probably wouldn't have taken it if you knew everything". Maybe so but why can't they ask you how feel and discontinue it after the radiation is done? As long as your PSA doesn't rise, why continue to be miserable? It took about 3/6 months for me to feel like my old self after discontinuing that poison. I had no similar symptoms as my T dropped with age and the collateral damage to my balls from the radiation and even after castration. Take Lupron if you want to but don't say you weren't warned. You'll have to find a doctor to prescribe it and hope it's covered by insurance because it ain't cheap. There has to be better ways to lower T than Lupron. That's my story.
