San Francisco Seminar

I have been invited to make a presentation about the voluntary eunuch community to the Center for Research & Education on Gender & Sexuality in San Francisco on the evening of Monday, September 10 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. I expect to talk for an academic hour (45 minutes or so) to allow for questions, conversation, and an attack on the refreshments. The end time is optional, though the janitor will want us out of there at some point. The presentation will be free and open to the public. They will even serve wine and cheese, as well as coffee and cookies, afterwards to facilitate conversation. I hope that EA members in the Bay Area will attend. You can be absolutely anonymous and blend into the crowd, or you can come up before or after the talk to say hello and to meet others from the EA.
The title of the talk will be Gender Identities Beyond the Binary and the abstract for the talk is
While most individuals continue to view human sex and gender in terms of binary pairs (i.e., male or female; masculine or feminine), there are other variants. My colleagues and I have been working for several years with a population of genetic males, who wish to be not male, but do not consider themselves to be female. They variously identify as third-gender, eunuch, or continue to identify as male post-castration. We have termed this a Male-to-Eunuch Gender Dysphoria.
We have data on over 300 genetic males, who have been voluntarily castrated, and another 1,300 who have not yet been castrated but wish to be. Most do not fit the diagnosis of male-to-female, as they desire to be neither male nor female. Others suffer from a Body Integrity Identity Disorder and find their genitalia repugnant, but otherwise still identify as male.
There are indications that the number of those with a Male-to-Eunuch GID may be quite high. We have also found individuals who transitioned with full male-to-female sexual reassignment surgery who then discovered that they were not female either and reverted to a neutral/eunuch gender identity.
The Center is at 835 Market Street and the talk will be in room 517. Its the same building as Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, though there is a separate entrance at the Ferry Building end of the building. There is a BART station right outside the door.
I hope to see some of you there .
