I get a cheap thrill out of seeing the 2,4,and eight person rowing teams for a couple reasons.
a) it's just so elegant.
b) the gang of bicycles on the far shore pedaling along and watching the race.
What a dedicated gang of crazy spectators -- only for rowing.
BTW- the women's 8 rowers won the Gold Medal.
YAY!
BTW2 - the MYTHBUSTERS got the Stanford Rowing Team to haul one of the MythBusters across the water and he water skied. That's how fast and how powerful they were. Damn what a show that was.

John McEnroe commenting on Tennis is a real hoot.
He's so full of himself and still (with that gray hair) combative and blut and so much fun to hear.
I'm not a great fan of televised tennis but if you get a chance to hear his commentaries, it's worth it.

I got stuck watching with nothing else on interesting but Olympic Boxing. I caught that match the other day that got the referree thrown out and another match where the scoring was awful... Sometimes, the Olympics gets more than one bad judge.
(I've trashed a couple sports like never ending volleyball and water polo in other threads and other times and I won't do it here)
Now I go back to the late 50's and early 60's when Gillette had a weekly boxing program so I understand the action.
There is an older, gruff voiced commentator (whose name I do not know) who is perfect. He's doesn't softsoap anything. He's like a good boxer, punches hard and true.
His commentary is in plain language and its good. It's profound.
It's like old Uncle Prize Fighter with the cauliflower ears and broken schnoz giving good advice.
He makes the matches worth watching.

CRYING-WHINY-BABY-ALERT...
There are complaints from the beach volleyball players (does that competition ever end?) That the matches get cold when the sun sets and their bare toes and feet get numb in the cold sand.
HEY, I'll give you a clue. It's London and the nights get cold. Wear some clothes.
Or is being near naked the point?

On the beach, near my school in California, they played beach volleyball in the nude. I loved watching those games.

Tennis shorts
Serena Williams just crushed Sharapova for the Gold Medal.
And in the HOLY CRAP WAS THAT A VOLLEY,
Mike and Bob Bryan won the Gold in Doubles on a final volley that was breath-taking and stunning.
If you want to see an amazing point, this is it. And best of all - it was for the Gold Medal which made it even more exciting.

Oscar Pistorius won his first elimination heat and did it in a great time.
There is good in the world.

I don't expect him to win, but I sure as hell hope he at least makes it to the finals. I want to see him in the big race, win or lose. It'll be one of the few events that I'll be absolutely glued to, just for the joy of watching him compete.

For the record, I don't believe that tennis should be in the olympics. First pre-requisite for me is that the olympics are the biggest thing for a particular sport. Tennis clearly doesn't apply. Neither does road cycling really either, so I'd boot that out too, even though I like it
I have watched small amounts of the games this year, though generally just to do with circumstances (Bella on my lap so can't write, general bit of downtime, etc) rather then definitely having to tune into something. However, I did watch the womens and mens 10,000 metres, which was like going back in time for me. I had been out and got pretty drunk last night, and then fell asleep on the couch (with Bella on my lap) at midnight, not waking until 4am. And then I got up at 6:30 cause Bella needed to go outside (I took her to bed with me). Dad was up, for the games (massive fan of track and field). I didn't even think of the mens 10k, but then decided to remain up and watch. It was kinda funny, as it didn't come on live, and channel 9 went to just general highlights/news for their morning show. If this was 12 years ago I would have been spewing! "Put the 10k on, pleeeease!" Or some such thingy. But nowadays that stuff just doesn't matter to me. Nevertheless, once it was shown (in full, just on delay - this was good, who cares if it's actually live) I did somewhat enjoy it. I knew a few of the runners still. For much of the morning I watched Olympics, and very much liked the highlights of the Aussie basketballers against Britain, plus some other stuff was okay. Tomorrow I may remember to turn to telly on and watch the 100 metres mens final. Not a big sprints fan, but that will be a nice race. If I get out of bed by 6:40. That's a big if lol. Today has been very much a day of decadence for me (is that the right word?), with heaps of masturbation (I succombed and connected it to my new laptop, so first ever ejaculation at new unit comes more than 3 months after moving in lol), so I've extinguished my flame totally for now, and so I felt like writing a post. Yay! This week is arguably the biggest of my life. I wish very much for it to all go well. I am not apparently nervous - perhaps I feel that I shouldn't worry about what I can't control, and whatever happens shell happen - though surely when I take my flight I will be shaking with excitement. I have kinda felt like making a post about sex, sex drive, differences between the two sexes and so forth (there was a thread created recently about why women sometimes ruin their lives due to sex as well as men, or some such thing), but maybe leave that to when I return home to Australia. In short, sex as a subject facinates me. Sure, it complicates life greatly, but it makes me think. As a contradiction it also gives me zone out periods when I'm not really thinking lol. I'd better stop, as I am about to ramble. Peace to all, and to all a good night.

Serena and Venus Williams won a gold medal in doubles tennis.
Good match to watch and that's 4 medals for the Williams sisters. They got all the right moves.
Murray v Federer is going on as I type and it's the way you want to see tennis.
John McEnroe (the one with the big mouth) is commentating and he's now regretful that he refused an Olympics and never went to one before this. He's not filled with meaningless, platitudinous drivel as commentary. He says what he means and that's it.
Murray and Federer are really just spectacular to watch.
