FX channel on cable showed AVATAR tonight and they will repeat it tomorrow, wednesday, May2, and Thursday May 3.

I don't see any repeats after that.

It is a long movie (164 minutes) but lots of action.

Basically a western, not a new story by a long shot but a stunning take on an old theme.

The good guys are really good guys and the bad guys lose.

The boy gets the girl and we can all feel good.

After the movie was out in Russia, on previous job, on a corkboard appeared a commented plot of Pocahontas, compared with Avatar.

Oh, and Avatar here started the "3d craze" in movies.

So I have mixed feelings about the movie. Yes, it was beautiful, but... The 3D craze it started and the whole hype and put me off enough to watch it in pirated copy - just to say, I watched it.

PS. It is a bit off topic, but as the one, who recently watched "Avatar", does this:

look like the helicopter from the film?

I didn't think something that shape in real life would fly. It definitely looks like the one in the film.

The scorpions... all possible.

If you are worried about the circles around the blades, look at this:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1991 ... PIP-Google

I've seen that in the stores. The clerks buzz kids with it.

Here's a youtube of it.

My only worry about the AVATAR Scorpion is the tilt mechanism on the rotors. Those gears and motors don't look substantial enough in some of the renditions in the movie. Those joints have to take a lot of pressure when the blades lift against gravity.

BTW- I never wanted see AVATAR because of the hype. I agree with anyone who says that this was way over-hyped. I had the distinct impression before the movie was released and when they were releasing various still pictures and trailers that masses of commentators were masturbating to those releases and telling us how good it would be. That kind of turns me off.

I finally saw it on the last week it was in a theater. I was almost alone and I can say that I was stunned when that last image "AVATAR" came up on the screen in green. I enjoy the movie. Hate the hype... My DVD has the theatrical cut. IT differs from what I saw on HBO and they have a third version now on FX. Not substantially different but tiny pieces and pacing different.

I still think that Giovanni Ribisi has the best line -- "What the HELL have you people been smoking out there?" -- it's perfect when it hits like a hammer.

Once was enough. And worth it.

Too much visuals, not enough story.
