Mad Men

Mad Men has been getting lots of Hollywood hullabaloo for its' upcoming premiere.
I was attracted to scenes of my childhood. Every home with one maple paneled wall and such.
Any fans?
My guess is we are going to find a Don Draper who loses interest after the conquest. Unable to stay monogamous because he can't give up the "danger" or "the hunt". Unable to live up to his non financial responsibilities the "family" he craves requires.
I guess that is a safe prediction.
I am looking forward to the new season. You?

I normally don't watch dramas; I find them boring.
However, when Mad Men came on Netflix, I gave it a shot, and was instantly hooked. I had a nasty flu at the time, and managed to watch the first two seasons in about a week (!).
I blame the writing. It's very good. Hell, I even teared up (it may have been the flu nausea) during Don's presentation to Kodak for the Carousell!! But the office politics etc. really hooked me... the little weasle Pete, who I wanted fired SO bad when he outed Don... the ungodly sexy and wiley office manager (I forget her name... I'm gay as hell, and even I love her bum in those red dresses)... and the visual candy make this show worth watching.
The color and cinematography keeps me watching; the show just looks suave as hell.
And yeah.... I wanna cuddle with both Don and that white-haired dude (not the old-guy owner... I mean the 2nd-in-command who had a heart attack in the first/second season).

Pretty good two hour intro. It does represent some months since we left them.
Meghan may well be Don's equal in the marriage. Tender and strong. Oh, and otherwise talented.
Remember Sally, the chubby kid in the ballet skirt in the first year?
She has really grown a pair of thin legs and sultry voice. What it demonstrates best is children chubbing out is normal before growth spurts. Contrary to nanny state teachings. Not letting them chub out may well inhibit full development. That means da brain too.
It is getting well into the sixties and I am missing those views of the fifties.

Another episode.
Pete is still a weasel.
Don and Megan have hearts, beyond themselves.
The Francis Family are jerks.
How did they get January Jones to look so fat?
They hired a Black secretary named Dawn. Dawn, get it? Tony Orlando. Its' the 60's they couldn't use Beulah.
They hired a Jewish copy writer because everyone is hiring a Jew. His name, Alan Ginzberg.
And for style, look at Betty's kitchen at the end. The ice cream scene with Sally.
I'd like to hear who did not live in those times and likes the show.

Child of Hollywood.
Up the hill from SFV and beautiful down town Burbank. Home of NBC Studios.
That's right, the NBC studios are not in Hollywood, or even Los Angeles.
Burbank is independent.

I did not live during the time, not really. I was born in 1969, so my memory only really streaches back to 70's style... GOD HELP ME !!!!. First thing I did when I bought my house was gut the basement of it's dark panelling walls and green shag carpet (BARF).
I saw highlights only (I don't have cable or satellite, by choice), but will watch the episode soon.
I will say I liked the dark suits better... having a hard time seeing Pete the Weasel in that loud, check/tartan-ish suit jacket!

The last episode was produced by Jon Hamm.
We got to see squirreli Pete take a licking from Toad Face
who was then comforted by Joan in a special way.
Don is not going to stray on Meghan.
I wonder in what corner of the office the next story will occur.
The running story line seems slow right now.

No Mad Men fans?
Meghan can hold her own on Don and he values her enough to behave.
Roger took an LSD trip and may have had that life altering experience.
Ginsberg revealed he was born in a concentration camp and adopted from a
Swedish orphanage at age 5 by his current father. Mother died in camp.
And Peggy had to get over the shock to her Jewish sleep over boy friend who she can pussy whip.
At the beginning of Mad Men, the end of the Eisenhower time, Jews were those people and separate.
Now they are among them and a Black secretary too.
It was a time of change and the series captures it very well.

Child of Hollywood.
I remember "The Jewish Beach Club" next to the "Gentile Beach Club" around Marina del Ray.
The State of California later declared the beach is NOT private property and those clubs are GWTW.

No fans of Mad Med ? Or too few?
This week we met Meghans Canadian parents. The Marxist professor father and the vamp mother. Lots of French.
The LSD trip now lets the writers re cast "Roger" as a happy person. I guess I should start looking.
Little Sally is developing a discriminating personality. Able to see what is.
The last scene is one they have used before. The cast standing or sitting there looking off in the distance in their own world, usually about disappointment.
No fans

, I guess I better find some Thronies.
