My urology appointment

Went to my appointment today to see my new female urologist. She was of small build and pretty. She examined me and was a little bewildered by the ring in my glans and felt around what was left of my scrotum. She squeezed the chords and asked me if there was any pain. I told her there was especially the right side. Then she told me to bend over and she examined my prostate. When finished she said, it's small as I expected. Then she reviewed my request which I had written down, a perineal urethrostomy? can't ever spell it right. I want a new pee hole down below where my scrotum was. I told her it was because my split glans and ring makes a mess when I urinate. She then explained the procedure and initially said she could do it, then she walked out to talk with a co-urologist. When she returned she said she would do it if I got a psychologists letter saying I was sane enough to have the operation. I was not happy, but what could I do. I agreed to see a psychologist and have the results sent to her. I'm not sure what to think about this, any thoughts?

Having decided over 25 years ago that eunuch was as valid a gender identity as any other identity, I put psychologists and psychologists to work, along with surgeons, and other physicians, in getting my needs of cancer-risk-minimization decently met.

I politely decline to be ashamed of my gender identity, just as I politely decline to be ashamed of my life in any way whatsoever.

It is not possible for me to tell what can happen to anyone else with certainty; however, for me, carrying on in the manner of my being a valid person has worked adequately.

Get the psychological review she wants. It is reassurance for her, and covers her butt legally. Besides, it might be reassuring to know just how much or how little craziness is at home...:)

Hash, I had to take my PA out because it was gradually migrating out the bottom of my glans and I was afraid it would rip through as the thickness decreased. I am surprised she was even able to find any cords in your scrotum. Mine vanished about three months after I was castrated, I later had my scrotum cut off and I can not detect any sign of cords. I am interested in having my glans removed. This would be an opportunity for that also, but may not be of interest to you. For those of us who may want a glansectomy could you ask her if she would do that. I have no trouble getting a "letter" if necessary. Thanks and keep us posted.

I don't honestly think a psych would care less if you have your urethra moved to prevent making a mess while urinating. Seems to me like more of a sanitary issue than a sanity issue :)

This is something I'm wondering about myself, it appears that my Urologist didn't remove too much of the cord at all and they have moved back down in to the scrotum, I'm wondering if they will atrophy? When I was at the Urologist I neglected to ask him if they would.

I should back up and say that she saw a lot of scarring, she saw my "eunuch" tattoo, saw my split glans with the ring in it. I think this must have jaded her decision, maybe that's why she talked with the co-worker too. She was reserved, she might have even been frightened by what she saw, she didn't really smile that I remember. She had a big diamond, it jumped out at you, so she's married. After just one meeting with her, I'm not sure that I really can give her a fair assessment. I don't think she felt very comfortable and I'm not scary. I was polite, courteous, nice, etc., but there I was standing before her, castrated with a shrunken penis asking for an unusual operation. Oh, by the way, she said, "We usually only do these when we do penectomies." I wonder if she's done a penectomy? I didn't think to ask, I was caught off guard. I will get my evaluation and will pursue the operation. One more thing, on the way out she said, "How did you find me? I'm one of only two or three female urologists in Jersey?" I said I was embarrassed to see a male urologist and she said, oh, ok.

P.S. She asked me to lie down, pressed on my stomach area, asked if there was any pain, then had me stand up. She said, "Take your pants down so I can examine you." I'm not sure why she couldn't examine me lying down. Maybe she wanted to see my penis hanging down.

I am wondering if either she or her male co-worker has read or been told about body modification? Hmm

smoothie,

I'm not sure she would just do a glansectomy without a valid reason. She seems pretty straight laced.

I personally only like doctors who have "seen it all". I usually have good luck with any older doctor that works in a big city. A young doctor, or a rural doctor, usually either has discomfort or personal opinions that get in the way.

I like a doctor with an attitude like the one who wrote this article: http://www.familypracticenews.com/news/ ... ace66.html

Maybe someone reading this can provide some descriptive information on what is involved in a basic (simplest way possible, no skin graft) glansectomy. Can this be done by a plastic surgeon who does not generally do this procedure? Looking to get this done and doing research. Thanks
