Man Who Lost His Penis Urges Clinic Controls

A man, who preferred to remain anonymous, is asking Panama’s Ministry of Health to impose stricter controls on private clinics offering novel treatments.

The victim is suing the Obarrio-based Men’s Quality clinic over a premature ejaculation and erectile disfunction treatment that caused him to lose his penis, TVN Noticias reports.

He says that he was given an injection which caused priapism – a painful, persistent erection without sexual arousal that can cause cell death. His erection reportedly lasted 50 hours.

Juan Carvajal, the victim’s lawyer, explained that the clinic had called urologists in Chile who recommended that he go to the emergency room where a medical board told him to have his penis removed or face death.

The clinic is a branch of the Men’s Quality Medical Group of Santiago, Chile. Thegroup’s website is beingremodeled, but additional information about their services is available through their Facebook page.

He worried that the business did not have permission from the Health Counsel to operate, but did have open publicity, so he retained lawyer Carvajal.

In most cases, treatment involves draining the blood using a needle placed in the side of the penis. This reminds me of a story plot Tim and I have been kicking around for some time now: A man's penis is banded and then injected with a substance that would be deadly if allowed into the general blood stream--snake venom, maybe, or liquid drain cleaner--or maybe he's just TOLD that it's such a substance. He then has to choose between removing the band and dying or leaving the band on and watching his penis slowly die and rot. If somebody wants to run with that ball, be our guest, as Tim and I aren't apt to get much story writing done anytime soon.
