Charles Leighton who robbed the US Bank in Pahrump was captured when ticketed for DUI.
Ted Holmes was cleared of all charges of impersonating an officer and resisting arrest. Holmes had hoped the cloud could be cleared from his reputation before the primary election where he was a candidate for sheriff.
Pahrump has a checkered history of race relations. For example, the local Libertarian party celebrated Martin Luther King Day at the shooting range. Now County Assessor Shirley Matson sent out emails taking to task the brown skinned men building the new jail. She in emails complained that they are like locusts crossing our great country destroying everything in sight. And I would never have a uneducated illegal hater of Americans watch my children or clean my house. These young girls will spread their legs to anyone to get an anchor baby growing in their bellies so they can illegally croass the border and suck up the U.S. citizen tax paid resources everywhere they go in the U.S. Dirty, filthy, theyre lazy, the illegal immigrants that come over, they want to suck up all the resources. When called about her comments, she said that she had never talked in English or Spanish with any of the men building the jail, never questioned the contractor and, further, denied that her comments were inflammatory.
In the November town board elections, three members were replaced. A new county commissioner, Dan Schinhofen, called a special meeting to consider a petition signed by 39 members of the Old Farts Breakfast. The petition sought to dissolve the Pahrump Town Board. The commissioners voted 4-1 to take no action. Schinhofen complained that, The republic is there to defend the minority and a minority wanted to bring this forward. Commissioner Joni Eastley agreed that 39 out of 36,441 citizens is a minority, but pointed out that it did not fit her definition of a mandate. Actually, the total turned out to be 38. One gentleman said that he thought he had signed a petition on incorporation.
And that is the way it is in Pahrump.
