Lexapro and prozac to control sex urges.

A week ago a doctor prescribed me some lexapro and some prozac to help me with my strong sex drive. I was taking a pill (10 mg) of lexapro and 40 mg of prozac. Has been a week and now my sex drive has dramatically reduced.

I can barely keep an erection and my orgasms are much much shorter.

Any thoughts? :dong: 🙄🙄

What is the good doctor's specialty?

What are the side effects of each drug?

Specifically the long term side effects.

Drugs tend to fix or mask one issue, and create new issues.

Same holds true for drugs that reduce testosterone.

Is that your only goal, to reduce libido.? (sex urge)

The sex drive comes only after the need for nourishment and renewal (sleep).

It is one of nature's most powerful drives, intended to insure survival of the species. It overpowers our will to ignore or control it.

So far as I know, physically altering or removing the testes is the only chemical free way of lowering testosterone, which will in most, but not all, cases reduce the sex drive. But even that comes with health risk side effects.

Nature has but one plan, and we are caught in the middle of it.

As they say, It's Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature..........but we still try.

I had similar great effects using SSRI (in my case Celexa). While loss of libido is considered a side effect of these drugs, it is prescribed fairly often for this effect.

The side effect for me is that over time I didn't feel as mentally sharp and felt a little detached. The detachment actually felt fine, but people would often ask me if I was alright because I wasn't as lively as normal.

But the SSRI was worth it for me, and I took it for 5 years and got through much of my obsession with genital self-harm thanks to it.

The cool thing about using an SSRI for libido control is that your testosterone is still functional, so you can still be athletic and such, which is a big advantage over chemical castration.

When I started taking Lexapro it had a major effect on my sex drive - but only for about two weeks. After that my body became used to it and my sex drive returned to normal, though I was not taking any other medication. Initially I couldn't even get hard. Unfortunately it didn't last for me, but hopefully you have greater success.

I was on prozac for several years and my doctor switched me to citalopram in 2002 (both anti-depressants), which have greatly reduced my sex drive and I seldom have erections. When I can get an erection, I cannot achieve an organsm at all because it goes into the bladder rather than out of my penis (known as retrograde ejaculation).

Sailorboy...when you say you can't orgasm, that the sperm goes into the bladder, you mean you can't ejaculate...orgasm usually results in sperm ejaculation, where it goes is sometimes determined by medications..In my case, being on Avodart for about a year now, I find that most of the time I ejaculate, as you say retrogradively(?)...nothing appears..but I do have orgasms...which are, unfortunately lesser in intensity...I'd really like to try an anti androgen, and be chemically sterilized...I still don't pee well...I'm thinking if I was chemically castrated, I might at least be able to pee better...and it might be cheaper...Avodart is expensive stuff...I have a urologist appt. the end of the month. Maybe I'll ask him...( yes, I do have ulterior motives...hehe)

Lack of testosterone will definitely cause your prostate to shrink, which is essentially what avodart is supposed to do. BPH, I presume?

Sorry about being this late, I´ve been busy and rather time-less due to jobs. SSRi lexapro and prozac left pretty much as sexless as I wanted. Usually I´d jerk off 5-6 times a day, and now, i´d do only once or none. As soon as I stop stimulating my dick, it wilts.
