Piranha 3D
Not that I watched it in 3D but this movie is pathetic crap.
I mean not even 12 year olds would enjoy this garbage as a giggle at the gore movie.
Unless you're sitting in a bunch of drunken loons who like to hurt people, it isn't a fun movie. It fails to even be a Saturday Night semi-scary movie.
All those Sci-Fi made for TV movies I crap on were all better than this.

Was watching that movie an atonement for some sin, some cinematic self flagellation? I haven't seen it; I don't even think I saw the trailer for it; the poster was enough for me to know it would be crap.

I grew up watching "chiller theater" on TV on Saturday Nights and those old, stupid and silly scare movies and the dumb sci fi movies were always enjoyable. You could mock them and once a week was OK.
And now and then a really bad movie like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" or the very serious "Little Shop of Horrors" were inadverdently screamingly funny comedies.
This was schlock and poorly done. It was done in 3D and that was the big attraction - stuff flying off the screen.

Hehehe...Dave, my 5 year old grandson thought it was great! Maybe that's the intended audience...except, I think it's rated PG or R for violence...

My eyeballs just popped out of my head like happens in the cartoons...
It's rated "R" for fucking (yes, the "F" bomb) language and blood - like bodies ripped apart and - lots of bare naked boobies everywhere a few vaginas and one rather ugly penis... not to mention lesbian sex on Spring Break, cocaine snorting in one scene and drinking and wet t-shirt contest ...
Took your 5 year old? Boy was that not the movie to take a 5 year old. the only salvation is that they don't see all that with the same understanding as we do.

Dave, you mentioned "Chiller Thriller" theatre; I totally remember that show! I was somewhere around 8 or 9 years old when, at a friends house for supper with my family, I watched an episode with their kids. I remember the title of it; "Let's Scare Jessica To Death". Being what I was (wimpy, quiet kid) with no previous exposure to the genre, it completely, utterly terrified me. Mom was mad for a week that I got to watch such a show! A couple of years later, The Poseiden Adventure ruined me for riding the boat on summer vacation.
Needless to say, dear ol' Mom nixed my watching of ANYTHING even remotely 'scary' (at least at home) ever again!!

I remember going to a double feature which they had back in the day, the movie I wanted to see did not start for an hour so I watch the second half of the other movie, I did not look and had no idea what it was, I came in and sat down and they were climbing up a x-mas tree and everything was upside down, it was not for another 20 minutes or so before I realized they were in a cruse ship. I remember that movie well, I have no idea what the one I saw with it. After the one I wanted to see was over I watch The Poseidon Adventure from the start, I loved it.

Dave..I'm not sure which movie it was that my grandson watched...His mom buys CDs and he watches them on a portable player...I haven't been to a movie in years...I just recall a new fascination with pirhanas.
Chiller Theater was way ahead of it's time...Good stuff...I think Michael Jackson borrowed some stuff from that...Sounds like a modern Sodom and Gomorrah remake...with Senor Pirhana doing the ethnic cleansing..

The original PIRANHA is not as extreme. The 3D remake is a bit much for kids. That might be what happened. There's a number of "fish gone bad" movies out there. Leviathan, for one.
I came back a couple minutes later to say this: The worst time we ever had with a movie (myself, Mother and an Aunt with my brothers kids) was over a MY LITTLE PONY movie. Why? because it was too involving for one of the little ones. It was like Bambi's mother being shot in Bambi or Old Yeller being shot with hydrophobia. SOmetimes kids look at these things and they don't register the fear we do and sometimes we look at a kids silly movie and laugh while the kids are scared to death. It's tough out there.

I liked the original POSEIDEN ADVENTURE until the ending where Gene Hackman is hanging from a valve berating God for troubling him. It's not that I'm overly religious. It's because it was an overdone monolog that spoiled the action of the movie. I hate contriving a death by complication of the plotline just to give an actor a big monolog.
