I have now been on chemical castrastion and varios forms of estrogen for about 2 months now. My question is regarding an upcoming minor surgery ( wisdom teeth removal ). I know full disclosure to a doctor is the way to go but it just aint gonna happen im my case. not yet anyway. so anyway, im scheduled to have out all 4 wisdom teeth in 10 days. they are knocking me out with general anesthesia. does hrt react with anesthesia and if so how long b4 the surgery should i stop taking it?

I think you should tell the anesthesiologist and you should phrase it this way - does your anesthesia conflict with these medications? - and them name them. He doesn't need to know why you are taking them, nor should you offer an explanation. Stopping or not stopping depends on his answer.

i appreciate the response but it didn't address my issue. im simply not comfortable discussing it with strangers (face to face that is). Considering i have a few other health issues and knowledge of the dangers of self medicating, the decision to self medicate was not made lightly. i have enough trouble with self acceptance.dealing with the judgemental looks from others is something im just not psychologically ready for at the moment. the only person iv ever been able to even discuss it openly with is my wife but we have a relationship built on years of trust and honesty. and even so im sometimes embarrased to talk to her. The journey of self discovery can often be a long and twisted one. self acceptance is an even trickier ride. so again i ask. anybody got any info on the subject of hrt and general anesthesia

Since you don't tell us the exact med you are concerned with, its hard to give any advice about how long it stays in your system. Suggest you find a drug handbook and see if you can find anything specific to the drug in question. In just a cursory look at oral estrogens, I see that the peak value from most seem to be in days, indicating that you should think maybe a week but this is no more than a SWAG without better input.

If you have concerns about general anesthesia and the meds that you are on and you are unwilling to be honest, you might want to consider having your wisdom teeth pulled without going the general anesthesia route. I had mine taken out with just lots of novocaine injected in several places. It hurt a lot more, but you should consider safety first.
Just my 2 cents. And you might consider that it is much better to be embarrassed than to have something happen that you will regret.

the particular medications in question are depo provera, progynon depot, sandrena gel, and estrofem. im not concerned about them being in my system. im just asking anyone who may have had surgical procedures knows if they can have any adverse reactions to the general anesthesia. thats all. local isnt an option because i have an irrational fear of dentistry. its not the pain. thats not that bad. its just an insane phobia. and as for safety over embarrasment, its more the anxiety over telling them more than it is their reaction. its just more mental stress that i just cant handle right now. thats why i asked people here. a place where i can draw from the experiences of others that may have shared my situation

Generally, you should discontinue your estrogen for several days before and after any surgery, specifically to allow proper clotting and healing. Estrogen won't interfere with the anesthesia, but it will affect your healing response.

Dear kyennamo,
General anesthesia and the hormones you take are not incompatible.
Nothing will happen.
In fact, selfmedication in se is, in time, far more dangerous than continuing them during a simple general anesthesia.
So, do not worry, if you do not want to deal with embarassing situations. Just go for it.
Good Luck !
Vesal.

Thanks for the input. he wife and I decided I do need to discuss this with a doctor, and a therapist. But in my own time. Being diabetic I do really need to let a doctor in on my hrt but the doctors I have now are stuffy old men that I get the impression are traditionalists and probably not the kinda peoplt that will offer help and support. Im currently in the market mor a gay/trans friendly therapisy, general practitioner, and endochronologist. The trick is getting ones that are in network

I would suggest looking at I think they call it the Rainbow phone book. This is what I did years ago in looking for a medical doctor, my first contact I handed him all the information on the castration drug I was taking. It was a good thing and something you should do.
It is always best to have your doctor on board with what your doing so he/she can check your blood for any problems.
Good luck to you,
River
