A person walks into a cafe with a shotgun in one hand and the other
Hand pulling a male buffalo with the other. He says to the waiter:
"Want coffee."
The waiter says, "Sure, Coming right up."
He gets the person a tall mug of coffee.....
The person drinks the coffee down in one gulp, turns and blasts the buffalo with the shotgun, causing parts of the animal to splatter everywhere and then just walks out.
The next morning the person returns. He has his shotgun in one hand, pulling another male buffalo with the other. He walks up to the counter and says to the waiter:
"Want coffee."
The waiter says, "Whoa,
We're still cleaning up your mess from yesterday. What was all that about, anyway?"
The person smiles and proudly says,
"Training for position in United States Congress.
Come in, drink coffee, shoot the bull, leave mess for others to clean up, disappear for rest of day."

Wow is this more offensive to Native Americans or Members of Congress? Maybe I am missing the humor.

Can I apply for that position in my local unemployment office or is that only in South Carolina.

If it's a joke, it's offensive and completely without humor. If it's not a joke, I have no idea what it's about.

I'm at a loss to understand this thread as well.

I remember that supposed joke. It's best left unsaid.
It's a variation on a "man walks into a bar with a duck under his arm and says 'I can fart the National Anthem...'" which has a funny punchline -- albeit crude, rude, and nasty but funny. The Indian joke is just a slur and an insult on the USA.
There is a joke that floats around that goes by the name of "THE ARISTOCRATS" and it is a joke of art. The basic premise is disgusting and vulgar but comedians use the joke as a work of art. To make the premise funny is to understand what is funny and what isn't. The Aristocrats joke is is not funny when you reduce it to the premise of "a wife cracks her husband's skull open with a golf club." However, a good comedian can take that and turn it into 5 minutes of hysterical laughter. Remember, it is not the Wiley Coyote falling off a cliff that is funny, Or Tweety Bird smashing a lamp on Sylvester's head that is funny, it's the context that is funny. It's the absurdity of the situation that is funny. The Road Runner always wins no matter what hair-brained goofy scheme Wiley Coyote invents. Tweety Bird always says "oooh, I tawt I taw a puddy tat" and at that line we all giggle because we know Sylvester is going to lose bad and big time. These are little morality plays of "pride goeth before the fall" ...
Again, we laugh at Buster Keaton slipping on a banana peel and landing on his ass. If it was an old lady in Walmart, we'd rush to her aid. But Buster Keaton in the movies, we laugh. Again context makes it funny...
I remember this joke and the context is to insult the USA, native Americans, bars and even buffaloes.

The OP posted a joke and when it did not receive a positive response it was deleted.

I see he's edited his post changing "Indian" to "Person," but given the initial post, this joke is still an ethnic slur. While I agree with his appraisal of Congress, this joke is still an ethnic slur. Who is going to read it without knowing what "person" he meant?
"Want coffee." He could have, at least, changed that to "Give me some coffee," or something similar.
Why am I not surprised Mac finds this joke funny?
