A 36-year-old man from Mpigi district is admitted in Mulago Hospital after his penis and testicles were cut off and his right eye removed by suspected ritual murderers.

In a separate incident, a 10-year-old girl from the neighbouring Wakiso district was found murdered and her leg and arm cut off yesterday in another suspected case of witchcraft.

Charles Mufumbya, a resident of Kafumu village in Mpigi, remains admitted in critical condition on Ward 2B where he was rushed on Sunday.

His brother, Yerefaili Mbabali, said he was going to attend a neighbour’s burial and as he passed his brother’s house, he called out his name and asked how he was. “From inside his house, he yelled back saying he was not feeling well.”

He said he only learnt of his brother’s predicament the next day when he invited him to a fire he had made outside his house but he failed to come out.

“I entered to see what was happening. I found him in his bed, tightly wrapped in a blanket. When I removed the bedding, I noticed that his right eye was bloody. On close examination, I realised the eye was missing.”

Mbabali said he was terrified and called out to another sibling for help. “As we helped him dress for hospital, we realised that his manhood had also been severed. He did not provide any answers when asked about the assailants.”

The family was unable to secure transport or funds for immediate evacuation. They were only able to take him to Mulago the next day, using public transport.

Yesterday, Mufumbya lay on the hospital bed, muttering incomprehensible phrases. “I feel pain all over my body,” he groaned. Mbabali sat at his side, giving him juice which he sipped from a spoon. “I do not know if my brother will ever get a family. He has no wife or children,” he said.

Dr. Mary Nabukenya, attached to the ward, said at the time of admission, Mufumbya was conscious but spoke incoherently. She was not willing to discuss his condition but hinted that there were chances of recovering his private parts through extensive plastic surgery.

Mpigi Police chief Joshua Owor yesterday said his team was investigating an attempted murder. Moses Binoga, who heads the anti-human trafficking and sacrifice taskforce, headed for the village to investigate the circumstances.

By press time, The New Vision had not established how Mufumbya was injured or who inflicted the injuries. The Police said he lived alone in a modest dwelling near a forest.

In another incident in Wakiso, also in the central region, a 10-year-girl was hacked to death by unknown persons who cut off her limbs.

The body of Margaret Babirye Nankya was recovered by the Police yesterday, after a two-day search. Tracking a trail of blood, detectives dug out her remains from a hole in a forest. She had a fresh cut on the head. Her right hand and left leg had been chopped off. The Police suspect that she was also raped.

The LC chairman said the girl had been staying with her aunt, Annet Nabukalu, in Najjemba village. He said the aunt had reported that her niece, whom she had sent to the garden to pick fresh beans, was missing.

Wakiso Police chief Abdallah Kalule said two men, one of them a traditional medicine man, had been arrested. He named the suspects as Matia Wasswa, who operates a shrine in the same village, and Lutaaya. Babirye was in P5 at Kasengejje Primary School. She was yesterday buried in Kavunza in Matugga.
