Britain bans Japanese horror DVD, too Gurotesuku! (http://current.com/items/90736536_brita ... tesuku.htm)

The British Board of Film Classification has banned the DVD release of Japanese helmer-scribe Koji Shiraishi’s "Gurotesuku" (Grotesque) for what it called violence so extreme that it was inappropriate for audiences.

The BBFC described the straight-to-DVD horror pic, distributed in the U.K. by 4Digital Media, as an "an unrelenting and escalating scenario of humiliation, brutality and sadism."

It said the movie’s scenes of torture — including amputation, castration and evisceration — made it impossible to edit the film in a way that would make it acceptable for British viewers.

"Gurotesuku!" seems aptly named. I don't believe in censorship but films like this do give me pause. I would wonder who else in the theatre is watching this film and what are they getting out of it. I'm sure most folks are just there for the goose bumps and chicken skin, but Leonard Lake and Charles Ng might have also enjoyed a film like this. Perhaps I am being unfair as I have not seen this film, but somehow the whole thing reminds me of the Calaveras County slayings that took place in the late 90's.
