Boyfriend tried to cut off my sons penis
2009/08/07
A CROWD of Gonubie township residents handed a suspect over to police after they had beaten him for allegedly trying to cut off his girlfriends toddler sons penis.
The 20-month-old child is recovering in East Londons Frere Hospital where his mother told the Dispatch yesterday how her boyfriend turned on her son.
The mother, whose name has been withheld to protect the boys identity, said it happened in the early hours of Monday, a few days after he had threatened to cut off the childs genitals, saying he was looking for a black mans private parts.
He said he had a deal and if he didnt get what he wanted he might use my childs parts for that. I thought he was joking, she said.
Just after midnight on Monday her boyfriend chased her out of their Mzamomhle home following an argument, she said, and as she was knocking on her neighbours door she heard a child screaming.
I went back to my house and I found my childs penis hanging by its skin, said the mom. I couldnt do anything. I didnt know where to touch. I cried.
She said the man tried to explain to her that the child had wet the bed next to their one-year-old daughter. How could he do that when he knows that the child wets himself because of his age?
As neighbours gathered, the man fled. Police and an ambulance were called.
Later that day the man returned, only to find an angry crowd waiting for him. They assaulted him before handing him over to officers at Gonubie police station.
Yesterday, community members said that the boys foreskin had disappeared with the man. The mother confirmed their allegation .
East London police spokesperson Superintendent Mtati Tana said that the man had been arrested.
He said a case of child abuse and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm had been opened.
The man is in police custody as the detectives are busy collecting more information on the case. He will appear in the East London Magistrates Court soon, said Tana. - By BONGANI FUZILE
