It Was Newport-Inglwood's Fault aka Calif. Quake

As I sat in my command chair with Sony LCD for computer monitor and big screen TV running - a sudden JOLT.

By he time I time I got outside, 5 seconds, it stopped. It was just one jolt. A few miles further from the epicenter, south of moi, a ten second quake was experienced with the JOLT at the end. I must have a geological cushion between me and Long Beach.

Well of course the news smoke screens the cause of our misery with non injury, minimal property damage quake stories today and they will no doubt pump it per Rupert's instructions.

The lunacy was the news advice not to go outside but, to get under a table. Not a door way, under a table. I will go outside thank you and let the rescuers know where to dig for the table. duh !

Umm.... in most instances by the time you get outside, the quake is finished. So I ask, why run?

I think this one was rather small by California standards. Did you ever see LA Story? The visitor to the city is panicked by the ground shaking, the natives just kept on talking as if nothing happened. :D

Being a native Southern Californian I am familiar with earthquakes, and knew that quake the other night was a moderate.

During an earthquake the way to tell the strength of an earthquake is the length of time. In other words, the longer the earthquakes rumbles the bigger the quake! A good example is the big quake down in Asia on Dec 29th 2004 was a 9.0 and no one could stand for a solid 15 minutes!

Agreed. If I fall down, it is either a strong quake, or I am making friends with the bar's floor.

I'm sorry, but any place where the ground shakes periodically is OFF MY LIST of good places to live. I like the stability that solid ground gives, not that quakey, shakey, wrinkly, jello-like dirt you guys live on! ! ! ! ! !

:)

Dave, I see by your profile that you live in western Pennsylvania! Bet you did not know that the Mississippi gets hit by an earthquake about every 100 years. The last time the Mississippi had an earthquake it changed the course of the river and was felt as far away as New York City!

Any geographical location can be hit by an earthquake, and at any time! It is just that some places are more likely to receive one then others. I am 49 and spent most of my life in Southern California and have felt less then five earthquakes. Have you been hit by less then five hurricanes in your life?

Pittsburgh PA and Biloxi Mississippi are about 1300 miles apart. Far enough for me not to worry.

:D

PS, we only had one hurricane ever reach this far north and I Was well out of the flood zones. I live 1100 feet above sea level on the top of a hill, far from hills and flood plains and rivers that flood. BTW - Pittsburgh is 750 feet above sea level.

🙏

Yoli here,

So far as I'm concerned you can blame it on San Andreas. After all, it's his FAULT! Maybe the Vatican should take a closer look at that guy.

Yoli

Of Pure Spanish Blood, but somehow a Lutheran. Go figure.
