As Slammr has already pointed out, if they do a second and third movie (as they most surely will), I hope they diverge from the source material, and keep Katniss as the strong character she is in the first book. It is very hard for me to imagine the brave and daring woman they portrayed in this movie doing the things she does in the second and third book.

Actually, I noticed something. At the end of the first book, Katniss is knocked out for several weeks while the Capitol heals her wounds and decides what to do with her. THAT part was omitted from the movie. Could it be they'll skip those same kind of parts in the sequel? In the third book she literally spends most of her time either strapped to a bed and medicated, or hiding in closets, and under bed-sheets. I'm not exaggerating that point. Perhaps when it comes time to make the sequel movies, they'll realize how pointless that is to the story, and just skip to the action.

I much prefer Katniss as a strong and capable character. I don't like what she becomes by the end of the third book. I can imagine a much better movie by simply omitting those parts. They are slow anyway, and wouldn't play out well on the big screen.

I'm about half way through the third book, and it SUCKS. It's worse than the second one, and I thought that would be hard to do. She was just shot after they cracked the "Nut." (Those that read the book will know what I mean). That whole scene was stupid. Hell, if I had been there with a gun, I would have shot her myself. I'm about at a point that I don't give a shit about her or any of the other characters in the book.

Anyone want to join me in rooting for President Snow? At least, he stays true to character. I don't know who any of the others are anymore. Maybe it's because Katniss is schizo, and we're seeing the story from her POV.

Did this author not have an editor?

Stephanie Meyer said, "The Hunger Games is amazing," but considering the source of that compliment, that doesn't say much. I enjoyed the "Hunger Games," but if you read it stop with it. The other two books will just ruin the series for you. You're better off not knowing what happens. I'm sure most of us could imagine a better ending than this author wrote.

This isn't the first time this has happened: read a good book in a series and get excited to read the rest only to find out that they suck, usually getting worse with each book in the series.

Saw the movie last night, with little knowledge of the book or the story. I HATED EVERY MINUTE OF THE FILM. Horrible.

I have not read the books. But I saw the film last night and agree with Cainanite that it was well made and entertaining. I enjoyed it! I also agree that keeping Katniss as a strong woman is preferable in any sequels.

The movie is close enough to the book that you don't really need to read it. We can only hope that the next two movies are better than the books on which they are based.
