Studlover,

It sounds as if someone has pissed in Sac Mec's Shredded Wheat, just ignore him.

Yes, the list is trite - so what? It is also reasonably accurate, although I know of only 1 supermarket, within about a 5 mile radius, that has an in-store pharmacy.

Keep posting, but remember to keep your body armour handy.

LOL

Hehe :) I guess it's the sort of humour which is good when you're in the right mood. I must say I can totally empathise with Sac_Mec. It's been a very stressful and tense couple of weeks for many reasons, and I was/am feeling backed into a corner right now. And - on the topic - sorry for getting all worked up in that way, but I do think our British way of life is very much under assault and our tolerance was our biggest weakness. Everything that gives our country identity feels like it is being eroded from all angles, and with the Muslim community claiming our 'foreign policy' caused these foiled attacks the other day, and with the request that Britain adopts Shari'a law for Muslim disputes today I've absolutely had enough. I know this isn't a political forum, but I just thought I should point out that a lot of people (myself being one!) are not amused with a lot of things lately.

Of course the social/cultural observations are quite funny :) But I can totally imagine how someone might not be in a laughing mood. It's just not a very good time to joke about British culture right now.

I think some folks need to wash their shirts - there's a lot of sleeves bearing emotions. While humor is certainly in the "eye of the beholder," when I dislike what I am seeing/hearing I just groan and go away. Or say Boo, but I do not "piss on someone's shredded wheat." Pull it in folks.

An d keep posting Stud. I DO have a very warped sense of humor, and love to laugh

Colin, I'm very shocked by your language. Do ex grammar school boys usually accuse strangers of either eating Shredded Wheat, or more extraordinarily the watersport variety. Neither are my cup of tea, Colin. I'm a Jordan's man at breakfast.

None of the items in the list are funny. I have never eaten the junk food listed nor have I drunk Diet Pepsi. The whole planet currently watches TV on Japenese sets and all their replacements will be Chinese. So what?

I hear America's number 1 selling car is a Toyota? (I'm rolling in the aisle with

humour;not!) It's all tosh. It's not funny and your dedication is not appreciated.

I know the Fraj also feels very sensitive. I'm sorry for his anguish but we both agree that we can do without drivel. The national mood is sombre and fragile; currently. "Jokes" about other nations are not funny. Jokes about Hospital A&E Departments are not funny, 'Jokes' about Christmas tragedies are sick as are comments about domestic tragedies. Just drop it please.

Note that Studlover's joke was apparently taken from a British newspaper, so I think it was fair game.

I want to see more optimism! The Western way of life is extremely strong, and if anything our culture is overrunning other cultures (which is good, I think). Even the terrorists have been seen in videos wearing British shoes!

Ironically, our way of life is bolstered by its adoption in Asia, where countries like Taiwan are exactly like us except for their food.

I believe that personal freedom leads to a culture's adaptability. The statement in the joke that British use all these non-British items is actually a testament to our strength. Adaptability = survival.

Don't let the terrorists get to you! They really are the minority in the world. Most Arabs I know are very comfortable living the Western way.

The Fraj, Kristoff and subsequently I raised our views on this joke because of its content and the fact that it was not pleasant whatever place was being discussed. The thread remarks did not mention immigration; we are commenting

about a joke. It is an abuse of our right of comment for you to redirect both

remarks and hyperlinks which are about Muslims. This is not the Political Board.

I find it hard to believe that the quoted remarks came from a British newspaper.

The question of what is Britain or what are British qualities now may have been the 'feedline' from a British paper.

I think the thread should be shut fairly soon - as I said before The Fraj added

his post above. However I do take objection also to the remark about only in Britain would we have disabled parking outside an ice-rink. Surely disabled people, including those in wheelchairs have every right to priority parking and the absolute right to be delighted to be thrilled by watching fit, able bodied

athletes and people performing on ice. They deserve that right and the

comment mocks the disabled. Please put this thread to bed soon!

Sorry for being a wet blanket everyone :) I did actually find the British joke amusing - I was just commenting how I could imagine why someone might not be all that amused.

By all means, keep posting :) This is the humour boards afterall 🙄

Hehe, I promise not to take it so seriously :)

I would point out that the Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph are currently broadcasting adverts which are effectively the same as the joke posted by Studlover.

Of course stereotypes such as this are always inaccurate when examined in detail. Of the items listed in the current advert, I do not wear italian clothing; drink german beer; drive a car; have any swedish furniture or watch football (regardless of the nationality of the of the owner/manager), but it is a cariacature - an exaggeration, and is mildly amusing. Incidentally, I don't read the Telegraph, either!

If you cannot laugh at yourself, then there will be little that you can laugh at.

LOL

Fraj,

There are many postings on this board which I find unfunny and some are close to offensive, but I would never seek to deny the person's right to make the posting. That is the thing of which Sac Mec is guilty!
