What if the steel is cooled to liquid helium temperature?
Then nothing happens. You need a certain amount of energy for a chemical reaction to proceed, and at those very low temperatures, most reactions will not occur.
The classic case is hydrogen and chlorine gas. Mixed together in a dark room, nothing occurs, but when a little sunlight hits the reaction vessel, BOOM. The UV rays in sunlight provide just enough energy to push the reaction ahead.

I was asking if a steel vessel cooled to liquid helium temperature would break if it was dropped two feet to a concrete floor.

It is sometimes amazing how a thread can get so off topic so fast.

I've seen about five minutes of this show.
In my book, it's right up there with "Jersey Shore".
A fine example of what our society has degenerated into.
(People even ending sentences with prepositions!)
And you're using BitTorrent? Think of all the money you're stealing from the DVD makers.
Wow.
Shame on you.
