So it's okay for men to do trivial things to themselves like splitting their peckers or just cutting the whold thing off, but it's not okay for women getting a labia trim?

I have an ex girlfriend who underwent the labia removal just because they were already pretty small and just wanted them out of the way. I see no problem with women undergoing the knife and enjoying genital mutilation as many of us on this site do.

No it is also sad that we men also do genital mutilation. When it comes to our own obsession with genital mutilation the issues get obscured, but when you look at other people doing it gives you more perspective. It is like seeing some beautiful girl who is obsessed with getting a nose job, etc. (look up Jennifer Grey to see this sort of thing).

Anytime someone is not satisfied

normal or even beautiful (to others' eyes), then that is sad.

This sort of pity is about as useful as pitying someone for their race, gender, orientation.

I'm not a big fan of plastic surgery, but its their right to do with their bodies as they wish. Otherwise on that note you could also say its sad some people need to get piercings, tattoos, dye their hair etc etc. The list is endless.

In the end, its not how they compare to YOUR measure of beauty that counts, its how they compare to THEIR own measure of beauty that counts. If she's beautiful to you but not to herself, so what? And conversely, if there is someone who is beautiful to themselves but not to you, you're not about to start pitying them.

It's really futile and rather silly to pity others based on your own sense of beauty. The only perspective you speak of is your own.

I agree with Punkypink. It is a personal choice, and as long as it is an informed one I think we should not judge.

This might be off topic, but.... it goes without say, that it is another thing entirely when the decision is being made for someone else, such as in the case of corrective surgery for inter-sexed babies, female genital mutilation, and male circumcision.

The body you live in is your own, and the decision to alter it should also be your own.
