There shouldn't be just two sexes that are allowed, I think. There is more to life than just two sexes or even sex. Actually a LOT more. But I myself did have my best friend for over fifteen years before he died. We did have alot of wonderful times and memories together. And in the end just because you are not allowed to succeed in one venue doesn't mean that there are other oppurtunities available. Life may be harder if you are in between two worlds but it is kind of nice to be able to move between two worlds too.

It is sad in that it ends her athletic competitions. It isn't her fault. She probably can't compete with the men and she won't be allowed to compete with the women.

too bad the 2 do not go hand in hand. Now not only is her career ruined, she has to face the stigma of being "not male not female". Wonder how much ostracisation she'll face in her country now. It won't be the 1st time people like her, people like me, are looked down on for being born the way we are. Society seems determined to believe that we deserve it somehow for something we did in our past lives.

Not all ovaries are on the inside. Not all testes are on the outside. Not all glands have been developed enough to become either one of these. Beleive it or not. I think that ancient Greece had already recognized this and so they pretty much set up a class of "priestesses". Plus in ancient society Many did seem to recogninize that there were in reality natural born eunuchs.

My guess (without proper medical information) is that Caster Semenya has Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, a gene mutation on the X chromosome. Those with AIS are genetically male, but have externally female bodies.

Here’s a link to a journalistic article (and brief video) about Eden Atwood, a female jazz singer (and former model) with AIS. She may have XY chromosomes, but she’s clearly a very attractive female.

She looks quite beautiful. And whether or not people appreciated her voice has little to do with her physical sexual state. To bad sports competition is not like beauty, up to the beholder.

Yoli here, to muddy the waters...

I don't see it as persecution because the rules ARE the rules and Caster's "condition" imparts an unfair advantage.

I feel badly for Caster and not so much as it relates to her athletic career. I'm more saddened by the poor prospects "she" has for a life enriched by a lasting marital relationship or something along that line.

May God somehow prove me wrong.

my admittedly limited experience suggests to me that there are soooooo many things that float so many different people's boats when it comes to erotic and personal interactions that this person will find many "someones" who will want to be in their company...the challenge will be to distinguish the sincere and caring from the voyeuristic and opportunistic....i wish Caster well...
