I find the topic of this thread anti-Semitic and highly offensive.

This quote, and the one just before it, invoke the old anti-Semitic slander that Jews are greedy and selfish. That's untrue. In fact, the opposite is nearer the truth. This slander has roots in history, which I had described.

People who are unconcerned with ethnic or racial or religious divisions don't ask how many of each group are to be found in certain occupations.

Defenders of GLBT rights shouldn't look askance at other minorities, especially if it means reaching for stereotypes. All minorities have defensible rights, or none do.

i dont think it was antisemetic at all. He said he wasnt being mean spirited, as in he was not saying Jewish people are greedy. All he said was that Jewish people made a Christmas album to make money. The exact same reasons anyone else would make a Christmas album, not because they are greedy but to cr

As long as this thread is being hijacked: I tend to take folks at face value. If they say they mean no harm while stating apparent (to them) facts, I suspect they mean it. They at least acknowledge the fact that they may indeed be offensive, but without intent. They're educable, usually as long as we don't bash them with what we may perceive as ignorance. I suspect that means more than the anger of the guy who wears his emotions on his sleeve with every intent of showing them at every opportunity. And I speak as a "minority."

Almost every person who's ever hurt me has assured me he had no malicious intent. It was for my own good, or they were just being honest, or they were abiding by the rules, or they had no choice, or they were sacrificing me for a greater good, or it was a mistake, or I was just being hypersensitive, etc., etc. Even the four times I was mugged in NYC, the muggers always had something to say to let me know they weren't really harming me, and that I probably deserved it. In grad school, an elderly German professor told me the Nazis thought they were acting for idealistic reasons. Everyone's got a story so they can feel good about themselves. Well, as Michael Corleone said in The Godfather, "it's all personal - nothing's just business."

I, too,

tend to take folks at face value. If they

kick me, I assume they meant it, even if they tell me they didn't. Actions mean more than words. I'd rather be treated well by people who say they don't like me than treated badly by people who say they like me.

That said, I believe that any offense here was unintentional. I received an apology, which I gratefully accepted. I consider the matter closed.

People do need to consider how others will be affected by what they say and do.
