Yoli's Good Deed.

Post by FianceeUvBigGuy (imported) »

One of my bosses asked me to bring the new camera I haven't figured out yet to work today so I could snap some images of a little presentation ceremony in honor of one of the more elder partners. Sooo...I packed up the camera, the extra lenses, AND the instruction manual and headed to the office.

After the little ritual was over one of the girls and I headed out into the heat. We were bound for the RiverWalk for a cocktail and some lunch. I took the camera along, intending to study it and the manual at the dining table and maybe do some "test" shots along the way there and back.

As we passed an alleyway, we spotted this poor man sitting in the trash and grime, leaning against a wall, looking pretty ragged out, what with the heat and all.

As we stood there, sorta shocked, he looked up, held out one grubby hand, and croaked "Please! Give me something...anything!"

Confused, I asked my friend "What should I give him?".

Her answer..."Ohhhhh, about F5.6 at 1/60th of a second."

Hum-de-hummmm🙄

He was probably suffering from malnutrition and dehydration but who cares?

These are exactly the sort of people who spoil what could otherwise be a pleasant city. They may even be dangerous. Certainly they are harmful to ones peace of mind and a bad example to the children: "Dad, I'm gonna be war vet too when I grow up."

Are there no workhouses?

Bah, humbug!

Wellllll, consider this....

You can enjoy a site like the EA.

You can practice your religion as you see fit, or subscribe to no religious belief at all.

You can speak or publish either pro- or anti-government sentiment.

You can claim that there IS a God. You can claim there is NOT. You won't be slaughtered for either view.

You may worship (or not) God in YOUR way, so long as you observe law and the rights of others.

You are reading and posting in English.

Guess who gave you those privileges. Guess who preserves them.

If you guessed "Our men and women in uniform, past and present.", you are a winner.

BTW...I do not assume that each and every poor soul; homeless, hungry, etc., is a war veteran. Most are not. AND...It was a photography joke, not true at all.

Thus ends Yoli's attempts at humor in this forum.

Gee Yoli,

if I upset you there I unresevedly apologise. My point was that in a modern western society we have the means and resources to help the indigent but we do not do so. I think we should help them. As a secondary point, I know that in the UK at least, I can't speak for the USA, the military do not seem to do a lot for injured vets. Remember how the military denied the Kuwait War Syndrome for years, presumably fearful of having to pay compensation or for treatment. Likewise with post trauma syndrome, not uncommon in guys that have been in serious combat.

Maybe I'm writing too cryptically. I shall try to be less obscure in future. I really didn't intend to upset anyone.

And please continue to post jokes.

Regards

I have thought that in a rescue, I would follow the hero into the fire to photograph the rescue!
