Politically Corect Christmas Card

Post by ramses (imported) »

To All My Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an

environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive,

gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within

the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or

secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular

persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice

religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally

successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of

the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due

respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to

society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is

necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the

Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race,

creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of

the wishee.

To My Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Funny, I'm a raging liberal democrat and except for my Jewish Friends who I wish a Happy Chanukah and a prosperous new year, I say Merry Christmas and have a prosperous New Year.

You sure you're not drinking too much egg nog and seeing pink elephants? Dancing ones. In Tutus.

Dave is right. It's a funny parody of the "politically correct," but not reality. As a good Buddhist, I always try to give an appropriate greeting when I know the other: "Merry Christmas," "Happy Chanukah," or "Happy Holidays." The last when I don't know the person well enough. My seasonal greeting cards, however, are militantly SOLSTICE cards.

For this year's Easter/Spring Fertility Festival, though, the card I've designed would have had me burned at the stake not too many years ago. Some recipients may even consider it in 2008.

Not mine, surely not mine. I might spend a chunk of money but the credit companies don't make much money off me.

As for politically correct cards and such.

When I was in High School, there was a big speech and debate league in Pittsburgh that held multi-school tournaments. I went to a small Catholic School and was friends with a group from one of the Temples (Rodef Shalom, I think). We saw the same opponents for three or four years and like teens, we talked and used to sneak off for better meals in tiny restaurants.

Well one day, after particularly good win, some of the "guys" decided to take a bunch downtown to one of the big restaurant/bars. It was Sabbath and one of the Jewish guys wouldn't get into a car. He was orthodox and didn't ride or drive on the Sabbath. Well, they physically man-handled him into the car and drove him where they wanted.

They lost a friend. He never spoke to them again. And I don't blame him.

Nowadays, when I hear PC ranting and raving, aside from the cute joke value (and this post by Ramses is cute and a little silly and fun), I wonder if those guys who drove their "friend" are the ones still carrying on about being PC.

I see nothing wrong with wishing happiness to a Jewish person - or a Sikh, or an atheist, or a French person - on the occasion of Christmas. Similarly, it would please me if a Jewish person were to wish me happiness for Chanukah. And why shouldn't a Muslim be happy at Christmas - or Chanukah?

So, Happy Christmas (OK, belated now, but I don't care!) to you ALL!

It gets complicated around my house. My wife is Jewish, my daughter is Native American/Christian, my son is studying Buddhism (no decision yet) and I am agnostic-athiest. So, we gladly accept friendly greetings of all types. Joyous Kwaanza to you all!! --FLO--

I think its very good to spread good will to people of all faiths. I also think that those selling "Holiday" gifts around this time of year should have the guts to admit which "Holiday" its for but.... Thats just me.

BTW I think the ads that start before Thanksgiving should be hunted down and fed Reindeer poop by the shovel full.

I read a book about Iraq where the kidnappers of one of the truckers over there told the victim that in Iraq the son is the son no matter what age and that sisters, brothers etc all spend time together everyday not just on Holidays. It made me ponder that there are some things we could learn.💡

Of course doing that would drive ME nuts but I like the concept!;)

Only one thing is missing from this politically correct greeting and that is the term "America" which refers to the whole continent, north and south instead of the "United States of America". And then there is also this question about naming the whole place after some jerk named Amerigo Vespucci too.

Merry Newmass and Happy Christyear Everybody --er Everyone

I wouldn't call that a lack of PC but rather a total disrespect for the young Jewish guy. Hoefully he is a not a hypocrit and has forgiven his foolish and inconsiderate friends.
