She arrived and they sat down to supper. Simon was very friendly and the mother liked him a lot. In between courses, the mother spoke to her son in the kitchen saying :
"Is there something you want to tell me? Are you and Simon having a relationship?"
Her son said "No, of course not, we're just good friends".
The mother left it at that.
Two days afterwards Simon said to the son "do you think your mother steals things?"
The son said no and asked why.
Simon said "Well, the gravy ladle has gone missing since she was here."
The son didn't think his mother had taken it but, after a few days and since they still couldn't find the gravy ladle, he emailed his mother saying :
"Dear Mother,
I'm not insinuating anything and I'm certainly not making accusations, but did you by any chance take the gravy ladle with you when you left our house?"
By return he got an email from his mother which said :
"Dear Son,
I'm not insinuating anything and I'm certainly not making accusations BUT if Simon was sleeping in his own bed, he would have found the gravy ladle by now."
