This is rather reminiscent of an episode of an old British television comedy series called 'Porridge' in which Ronnie Barker plays a convict.

In the episode, he and his cellmate are talking about good hiding places and he gives the opinion that a really good place is in the vegetable patch because the earth is regularly disturbed, so it is not obvious where something is buried. - You guessed it, later on his wife visits with the news that the Police came and made an excellent job of the winter digging.
