Testicle donation?

Post by VicistiGalilaee (imported) »

I've been thinking about how to become castrated, and I read something about a man who donated his testicles who received $35,000.I did some more research and found out that you can't typically do this, as it is illegal to sell your body parts. However, is it possible to donate one's testicles for free?

Not that I want to be a wet blanket but most surgeons would be very puzzled and refer a person who approached them like that to a psychiatrist.

That wouldn't be an altogether terrible idea.

Think of testicle donation not like a kidney or a lobe of liver (both of which can be made from live donors, think of it in the situation that a person lost an arm and a complete stranger offered to replace that arm or a leg with his own. Surgeons would be puzzled why one wanted to give up all that function (an arm or a leg) to a stranger. Donating a kidney or a liver lobe makes sense to save a life.

An arm or a leg or a testicle doesn't save a life. That would seem to most people to be illogical.

I suspect we received the same link - in season 2, episode 3 of Extreme Cheapskates, someone considers selling a testicle for $35,000 - or rather enrolling in a medical study involving the removal of a nut and two weeks' participation for thirty five grand.

That was a study two years ago, not a standing offer.

Also, they were disqualified for low testosterone, and enrolled on an HRT study instead.

Dave - a testicle could be given to a stranger without a loss of function, however! </devil's-advocate>

Hey, if you could donate a testicle, would the sperm be the genetics of the donor or would the sperm eventually reflect the dna of the recipient eventually? I know if there was an ovary donation the eggs already all exist so it would be the original woman's eggs.

Inquiring minds want to know...

As sperm generating cells have donor genetic code, recipient organism is actually like host organism for parasite (donor testicles) spreading donor (parasite) genetic code. :D

There is nothing more important than survival of testicles! Man could be dead, but if his testicle live on and are able to spread genetic code with the help of host organism, it's like dead man continues to live.

But in reality it is much more difficult and unhealthy to take all these medications supressing organ rejection with wrong genetic code than just take T.

May be only in very rare cases testicular transplants are justified.

I wonder if someone, instead of chemical trial period would lend his balls temporarily to someone who has no balls and is on T. And if living as an eunuch isn't acceptable then he could have his balls attached back :D

Erikboy has the biology of it spot on. (Your field, too?) To illustrate, if a black man donated a testicle to a white guy who lost his in a tragic accident would result in (at least half-) black children. The blood-testis barrier would prevent colonization of the organ by the host's stem cells, and such an event really only happens in laboratory conditions, anyway.

On a tangent, I've always wondered about xenotransplant of testicles since a few years back when I had a really strange dream. In it, one could volunteer to be a custodian of a testicle taken from an endangered animal, in order to protect their germline from that species' (Cape buffalo, I think?) relatively shorter lifespan and exposure to dangers. To generalize a bit, there's probably a business model in doing this with race horses. You want to castrate them ASAP to ensure they are as trainable as possible and most likely to succeed, but gelded race horses can't be put up for stud. What if we hollow out a human ballsack - will a single horse testicle fit? If so, you offer someone a stipend in order to act as a steward to that valuable genetic material that would otherwise be lost from your promising new racehorse. If your horse wins big, your stewards get to be paid to show up at the sperm bank, and bang them out as fast as humanly (equinely?) possible.

If they don't work out, and it's not for some tragic accident and circumstances leave no ambiguity about the genetic idealness of your horse, I guess you just keep paying the hosts' immunomodulation-drug costs and write it up as a failed bet, and maybe they make fifty bucks on the side once in a while providing their own kind of stud service, if that makes you chuckle (or stiff, I guess).
