Twelfth Anniversary

Post by kristoff »

Twelve years ago today I survived one of the last surgeries by Dr. Felix Spector. Despite the fact that I ended up in ICU afterward, the upside of the whole experience is that I came out of it shy of a couple of testicles. It took a long time to recover - read my story in Consequences of Castration in the Non-fiction board - but I did recover, am doing well, and grateful that they are gone.

Congratulations. I'm hoping to one day be as brave as you.

For this moment, I'm happy remaining a wannabe. I've always felt those two annoying lumps of gristle didn't belong in the front of my pants, but I've never had the drive to have them off. Also, being a coward when it comes to pain has kept the idea from being seriously considered.

Is it weird that I am am envious of those that have the courage to take the plunge? I'm always amazed at the guts it takes to do what you have done.

For now, my bits are neither doing me any good, nor are they doing me any harm, so I'll hang on to them. My logic is, I may be sterile, and low on testosterone, but low T levels are better than needing injections. It has been a long while since I had dramatic mood swings. (It is better since I understand what they are - Hormone imbalance.) I've got much better at controlling myself.

Still, I know that one day, they are going to have to go. The older I get, the less that idea is a fantasy, and more of a reality.

I just hope there will still be a doctor willing to do it, when I finally build up the nerve.

Congrats again on 12 years of being yourself. I'm looking forward to meeting you at the MoM in August. Maybe it will inspire me.

Congratulations. Just about six weeks for me and already I have pretty much forgotten about the surgery, which was uneventful. But I had already successfully lowered my testosterone level to below 100 for several years before my one functional testicle was removed so it was no big deal for me in the end. Glad that it was done and no regrets.
