Best Laid Plan of Mice, Men and Seals
The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska was $80,000.00 At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers.. A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both.

What did you expect to happen?
A long and happy life with the seals giving autographs every anniversary?

I love that story, even if it isn't true.
As true as it sounds, it just isn't so. True. Killer whales DO eat seals when they can catch them, and it may very well turn out that much of the wildlife we try to save becomes food for something bigger, but this story never happened.
The story is a part of seven stories that began circulating back in 1998. None of them have been proven to be true.

Still funny though. We can't get too attached to the critters we save. Mother Nature can be a bitch when she wants to.

I have long wondered just how much of recorded history is really mis-recorded fantasy...
...And how much of recorded fantasy is really mis-recorded history.

Re: Best Laid Plan of Mice, Men and Seals
From time to time I see a report in the news about something about which I have personal knowledge. Given the way those stories get screwed up, I sometimes wonder how much of what I think I know about the world (based on news media) is totally wrong. And that's not even allowing for biased reporting.

Oh, you guys wanted Truth from the media huh? Interesting concept there.
When I could afford a daily newspaper, I'd only trust the Washington Post or the Christian Science Monitor.
