It doesn't bode well for any movie when your actively mocking the movie dialogue and background music less than ten minutes into the movie. This wasn't supposed to be a comedy, was it.
The drunken man-brute of a hairy, spitting, sweaty beast greeting was so over the top, who could take anything in this movie seriously?
AUSTRALIA (the movie with Hugh Jackman)

Re: AUSTRALIA (the movie with Hugh Jackman)
I have not seen the movie "Australia" yet, only bits of it on someone else's rented movie. Anyway, I heard the movie critics hated it, so that means I will probably like it if I ever bother to see it. Lately, my taste for movies and adventures and just about anything seems to have waned quite a bit. So far, evey time I have considered renting the movie Australia (and a lot of other movies for that matter), the "inner voice" in my mind says "Hey! You are NEVER going to go to Australia, you are NEVER going to have a wild romance with Nicole Kidman (or anyone else), and watching some adventure movie about it is just going to make you want what you can never have..." So I usually end up renting some boring dockumentary or mockumentary movie.... The last movie I rented was "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold," I enjoyed it very much, but wouldn't you know it, from the movie I learned that the Brazilian city of Sao Paolo has an ordinance against ANY outdoor advetising, NO billboards, NO ads on the sides of busses or taxi cabs, NO posters.... Seeing the "before and after" shots of downtown Sao Paolo was amazing! Now, even though I REALLY HAVE TRIED HARD TO AVOID IT, I am once again vexed with a severe wanting for something I will never have: I SO SO SO SOOOOOOO WANT TO MOVE TO SAO PAOLO now!
If I watch "Australia," I will probably want to waste thousands of dollars I do not have to go on a vacation to Australia, so I probably won't watch it.

Re: AUSTRALIA (the movie with Hugh Jackman)
It's a big movie, sprawling and a love letter the scenic beauty of Australia.
Baz Lurman made an Australian Gone With the Wind as a love letter for tourists.
IT's just, I keep giggling at the oddest parts of the movie. It's not drivel but the characters are thin and I have an evilly satiric mind that keeps me giggling.

Re: AUSTRALIA (the movie with Hugh Jackman)
I was editing a bad short story from 20,000 words down to 10,000 or hopefully less while watching it.
Somehow the TV facilitates my thinking and a quiet room like a library doesn't. I only work in silence when I am "on" and I can't explain "on."
I used classical music to fill the silence while I was at work. People didn't much object to that.
