Marikina city officials hope to establish a world record for the number of people attending a mass circumcision.

The vice mayor, Jose Fabian Cadiz, said: 'We applied for the Guinness Book of World Records and we are recording everything so we can send all the data to them and hopefully it will be recognized.'

Marikina, the country's shoemaking capital, was recognized by Guinness in 2002 for creating what was then the world's biggest pair of shoes.

However, a spokesman for Guinness Book of World Records told MailOnline: 'Guinness World Records would like to clarify that it does not, under any circumstance, monitor, endorse or recognise this type of 'record attempt'. The organisers of the event have no prior approval from Guinness World Records to use its trademarks in connection with this event and any claim to officially recognise this event will be rejected.'

I've read about this sort of event before and I've also seen film footage. Parents take their boys ages 8 to 11 to have their genitals snipped and it's all a big party. This is as weird as just about any of the stories posted in the archives.

What the hell are the parents thinking?:(
