Last week, a cock-fighting chicken killed its handler after it severed a major artery in his leg. The handler, 35-year-old José Luis Ochoa, was taken to the Delano Regional Medical Center, where he died about two hours after he was brought in by police who responded to an illegal cockfighting ring in Lamont, California.
The autopsy, performed by the Kern Count Medical Examiner, confirmed that Mr. Ochoa died as a result of a stabbing wound in his right calf. His death was deemed accidental.
The victim had previously been fined $370 after pleading no contest to one count of owning or training an animal for fighting, according to Kern County Superior Court records.
Ochoa was apparently stabbed when a blade attached to the rooster's leg sliced through his calf.
"I have never seen this type of incident," said Sgt. Martin King to Bakersfield.com. "People have been known to bleed out from those injuries if medical attention is not obtained immediately."
When deputies arrived, they found five dead roosters and other cockfighting evidence, reports Bakersfield.com.
According to Public Health Director Matt Constantine, the roosters have been injected with steroids and antibiotics, and they typically have had the spurs on their legs and head combs cut off.

Re: Karma?
As all the ways that I would hate to die, I think this tops the list.
